Saint Francis Xavier - Principal's Report
Term 2 - Week 1
Dear Parents and Friends of St Francis Xavier,
Welcome back to Term Two! I trust you all made the most of the beautiful weather in the precious time that families can spend together over the Easter season. It has been wonderful to see so many families at school ready to help their children embrace new learning opportunities, new challenges and new friendships in this new term.
The passing of Pope Francis
This week, we join with Catholics around the world in mourning the passing of Pope Francis, a humble and courageous shepherd who led the Church with compassion, wisdom, and deep faith. Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis reminded us of the importance of mercy, care for the poor, and the call to be stewards of God's creation. His words and actions inspired millions to live with greater love, justice, and kindness, especially toward those on the margins of society.
As a school community, we give thanks for Pope Francis’ extraordinary legacy—a legacy of hope, humility, and inclusivity. We remember his encouragement for young people to “make noise” in the world by standing up for what is right and bringing the light of Christ to others. We pray to the Holy Spirit to guide those tasked with the election of a new Bishop of Rome, and pray to the Lord so that he blesses Pope Francis' successor in the time ahead.
ANZAC Day
Today, our school community came together to commemorate ANZAC Day - a time to remember and honour the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for our country. Across every classroom this morning, students paused for a special ANZAC service, reflecting on the values of courage, mateship, and resilience that continue to shape our nation. Through prayer and reflection, we acknowledged the enduring legacy of the ANZAC spirit and its relevance in today’s world, where peace, compassion, and unity remain as vital as ever.
This afternoon, our Grade 6 students proudly represented St Francis Xavier Primary School at the Frankston community ANZAC Day service held at Beauty Park. Standing alongside veterans, service personnel, and members of the wider community, our students laid a wreath on behalf of our school and paid their respects. It was a meaningful opportunity for our students to engage in this important tradition, deepening their understanding of history and their gratitude for those who gave so much. Lest we forget.
School Photos
School photos are taking place on Tuesday 13th May.
We have a morning booking with our photographer, so I would expect that the first class photo will be taken at roughly 8:50am. It is very important that students arrive at school on time on this day. If you are late, there is a definite chance that your child may miss their class photo.
Students will need to wear their Summer Uniform on the day.
Physical Education Classes
During Term Two, students will participate in Physical Education classes on both Wednesdays and Thursdays. Students are encouraged to wear their sports uniform on both of these days. Thank you.
School Closure Days - Term 2
There will be two school closure days in Term 2 at S.F.X. Could I ask all families to put the following two dates in your diaries as there will be no students at school on these days.
Monday 12th May
Tuesday 10th June (The Tuesday after the King's Birthday Public Holiday)
Prep Enrolments 2026
Now is the time to enrol your four or five year old to start Prep at St Francis Xavier in 2026. If you need an enrolment form, please contact the staff in our school office as soon as possible. If you know someone who is looking for a school for their child, why not suggest St Francis Xavier as a great school to consider? I am always happy to take prospective families on a personal school tour.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
