Happy Birthday John Wollaston
Happy heavenly birthday to The Venerable John Ramsden Wollaston.
John Ramsden Wollaston was born on 28 March 1791 and enjoyed the greater part of his life as a village Priest in England.
In 1841 at the age of 50, he left the known comforts of parish life to begin a ministry in the colony of Western Australia. He arrived in the settlement of Australind that year as a free settler.
His energy and efficiency became widely known and he was asked to Minister to the people in Albany. In 1848, he was appointed the first Archdeacon of Western Australia. He rode on horseback all over the southwest, caring for the church.
He died due to exhaustion, after his second main Archidiaconal Tour in 1856.
In 1984, he was proclaimed as a local saint and hero of the Anglican Church.
This is an abstract taken from the Wollaston Journals in the Archives office.
This is only a small account of the namesake of our School. There is much more history about John Wollaston, including photos of him and his family that can be found in the Archives office.
From Term 2, the Archives will be open every Tuesday 8:00am - 4:00pm for students, staff and past students to come and see the history of the School in photos. We are now 36 years old!
I look forward to seeing families visit soon.
Old Wollastonian Reunions
I am very passionate about our reunions; they are very exciting (yet big) events for me to organise throughout the year. Please see this year's reunion dates below. It would be wonderful if staff could come and say hello to the Old Wollastonians from classes of 1995, 2005 and 2015 - they always ask about their favourite teachers!
Thank you to Brendan Kilmartin for his offer of help at our reunions.
King regards
