Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Last week we finally got to participate in our swimming program but as you are well aware it wasn’t without its hiccups! However, the children still managed to enjoy the opportunity to get into the water and develop their swimming and water safety skills. Thank you, parents, for encouraging your child to come to school organised each day with all they needed to participate. This was a great support to the teachers and ensured your child got the most from the program. Thank you also to the many parents who came along to help throughout the week. As always, we greatly appreciate your time. Thank you to Dom Poppa for the organisation that went into the week – it is a huge task coordinating a whole school swimming program!
Yesterday we welcomed our 2024 Foundation students to school. It was an exciting day for them as they spent time completing activities and getting to know their way around the school. Some bounced through the door while others took a little while to sum up their new environment. That is why we have these very valuable days, giving each of the new enrolments the time they need to transition positively into school and be ready when the big day finally comes around. There are more transition sessions over the coming weeks and an information session for 2024 Foundation parents at 6pm on Tuesday 14th of November to help prepare your child for school life at Sacred Heart.
Thank you to our many families who were able to support our Book Fair. It was a wonderful success with Sacred Heart receiving over $1100 in commission from Scholastic. Thank you so much to Rachel Fidock and Karen Nihill for their time and organisation and to the staff for supporting them and helping with the sale of the books. Teachers are very excited to be able to choose a range of books to go into our new Library space. Thanks again for your wonderful support.
Last night the School Advisory Council met and discussed various agenda items. The 2024 fee structure was endorsed. Also discussed were SAC priorities for 2024 – ways we can build school and community partnerships and initiatives SAC can contribute towards meeting student engagement, wellbeing and learning goals. SAC members will be available to meet parents at our information evening on November 14th.
We are currently seeking nominations for our School Advisory Board [SAC] 2024. Becoming a member of the SAC is an excellent way for parents to become involved in the life of the school. There is further information regarding the SAC and nomination forms in this newsletter. Kylee Dewis, [Chair], members of the SAC or myself are available if you are interested in further information or have any questions regards SAC. Nominations to be received by November 17th 2023. The next SAC meeting will be the final one for the year and new members will be invited along.
At Sacred Heart we are very fortunate to be able to provide many additional programs to cater specifically for the wellbeing and social needs of children. Some of these include Chill Skills, Gorgeous Gardens, Wonderful Woodwork, Bike Bros, and Art Therapy. Debbie Turvey and Annie Seccull [Thrive OT] have almost completed a successful SAS [Secret Agent Society] program. This program gives children the opportunity to learn to recognise how they feel and develop skills and confidence when interacting with others. Parents are also very involved in this program and have regular mentor meetings with Debbie and Annie. SAS program is an additional cost to parents.
May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
