Dear Parents, Carers, Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,

What a stunning way to finish the week with our charity Wheelathon event and official opening of the new and improved Derinya oval. With a target of one wheelchair per class, totalling 39 across the school we have absolutely smashed our goal. Thanks to the generosity of our community Wheelchairs for kids will be able to sponsor 81 chairs with our fundraising total exceeding $20,000. The children have had a great time trialling the chairs and many thanks must go to Mr Debenham, Mr Charles, the SVT and the team from Frankston High for the incredible efforts in organising this event.  

Sporting news 

Congratulations must also go to our division basketballers who have been successful in progressing to the regional competition and will defend our 2022 title of State Champions. Well done.  

Team Japan 

Welcome back to the 16 students and four staff who had the time of their lives touring Japan over the first two weeks of term. A huge shout out to Mrs Anne Wilken, Taylor Sensei, Mr Stuart Charles and Sakamoto Sensei for ensuring the trip was well organised and jam packed full of adventure and fantastic experiences for our students. Some highlights for the children were their home stay experiences and visiting our sister school in Susono.  

World Teacher’s Day Thank You 

A huge thank you also goes to our stunning students who expressed their gratitude to our staff on World Teacher’s Day. The teachers loved receiving hand made cards from the children and felt very special. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful staff here at Derinya who genuinely care for all of our students and work diligently to provide engaging and challenging learning opportunities for our children each day.
