Policies at TPS

Current TPS Policies

Attendance Policy

It is important that your child attends school on time every day. However, if your child is sick home we require students to stay at home until symptoms cease. Please notify the school office or classroom teacher of any absences. You can also login into Compass and record your child's absence.  In the case of unexplained absence, the office will follow up with parents as we are required to have documentation for these absences.

Late Arrivals / Early Departures

If your child arrives at school after the commencement of the school day the parents/carers are required to sign in their child at the school office using the iPad. If you require to pick up your child before the end of the school day or we call you to collect your child for any reason, we also require the parent/carer to sign out at the school office. Please be aware that if any child is not collected after school we will make all attempts to

contact a parent/carer or the child will be directed to our Out of Hours School Care.

Sun Smart Policy

We are a "SunSmart" school and hats are compulsory for staff and students on high UV days.  Hats not brought through the school must conform to the sun smart guidelines, that is , peaked caps must be of legionnaire style with the flap to protect the neck, brimmed hats must be 'wide' enough to be SunSmart.  No hat means that students will only be allowed to play in the shade.

First Aid Policy

Our First Aid room is located at the front of the school on the left of the front office. It is

supervised by our First Aid Officers during Recess and Lunch times. During learning times teachers notify the front office for any first aid requirements.

Accidents and unwell children

For injuries of a minor nature, first aid will be administered at school following our First Aid Policy and a note will be sent home with your child. Please note for a head injury the school is required to notify the parent/carer. If a serious illness or injury occurs every effort will be made to contact the parent/carer. However, it may be necessary to seek immediate medical assistance therefore it is essential that our medical records are kept accurate including emergency contacts.

Medication Policy

A medication authority form will be available from the school office or the first aid room. When a student requires medication administered during school hours a Medical Authority Form is to be completed by the parents/carers and returned to the school office. All medication must be labelled by a pharmacist with the students name, dosage and time for administration (including Panadol or Zyrtec).

Asthma Policy

For many student asthma impacts their day to day lives. Some require medication on a daily basis and others have mild symptoms only requiring occasional medication. In accordance with guidelines form the Victorian Department of Education and Training, all students with asthma are required to have an Asthma Foundation Victoria's Asthma Care Plan for Schools Action Plan. The plan must be completed by a medical practitioner and updated annually. Our First Aid Officers will notify parents when plans and medications are out of date.

Anaphylaxis Policy

At TPS we have an Anaphylaxis Policy which actively promotes allergy awareness and follow the Victorian Guidelines for Anaphylaxis Management in Schools. Risk minimisation strategies are put in place across the school however this is a joint responsibility and we ask you to consider this when packing school lunches. All students with an allergy or Anaphylaxis require an up to date plan completed by a medical practitioner and an in date Epi-pen provided to the school. Our First Aid Officers will notify parents when plans and Epi-pens are out of date.
