Getting Ready for school

For the Preps, Term One 2024 begins on Thursday 1st February at 9.15am. This first day, we will start later at 9.15am.  This ensures all the other students are in class and we can support Foundation to arrive and settle in.

  • Monday 29th Jan - Pupil Free Day
  • Tuesday 30th Jan - Pupil Free Day
  • Wednesday 31st Jan - Grades 1-6 return to school
  • Thursday 1st February Preps join us at 9:15am start & Tea and Tissues - Morning tea for families.
  • Friday 2nd Jan Preps start at usual time: 9:00am

Before the start date you can practice getting ready for school by:

  • Role play with teddies and toys is a great way to "play school" and practise skills your child might need.
  • Use different toilets in public places while you wait in the hand wash area.
  • Driving by or parking outside the school grounds and playing "I spy"
  • Dress ups with the school uniform and practising taking the jumper on and off.
  • Playing "Follow the leader" or "Freeze" games when out walking.
  • Wearing in school shoes so they are not "new" day one but are comfortable and ready to run!!!
  • "Lunch box" lunches at home - practicing opening containers, bananas, yoghurts.
  • Talk about weather and clothing - "I put my jumper on when I'm cold and take it off when I am hot."
  • Put things in and take them out of my school bag -drink bottle, lunchbox, jumper.
  • Organise playdates with children from the class to help jump start some new friendships.

Set up Compass

We use Compass for all our school communications, it is essential that you have access to this platform. You will receive the login procedure for COMPASS in the mail.

Uniform Options

We support local and sustainable/ethical suppliers and cost-effective choices for families.

We have a variety of options for children with our uniform policy including department store blue t-shirts and back trousers.

All student clothing at TPS must meet our Sunsmart and Student Wellbeing policies including closed toe shoes and covered shoulders.

All students require a Sunsmart hat to play on high UV days.  We have a "No Hat, Shade Play" strategy which does restrict some areas of play without a hat.

TOP 5 TIPS FOR UNIFORMS

  1. Name and Class/Teacher Name on all clothing items especially hats, "Felix FA" or "Felix/Juliette"
  2. Shoe recommendations: Suitable for play and running outside which are easy to take on and off such as Velcro.
  3. Spares in the bag - accidents and mess happens (put in spare underpants, socks, trousers and a top)
  4. Lost Property is managed by the front office - often things turn up in a few days.
  5. Consider weather options for Melbourne's 5 seasons in one day!
