Science Day

By Mr Males

On the 23rd of November, Donvale Primary School really embraced Science Day. Everyone arrived in their costumes ranging from different scientists, doctor, elements, dinosaurs, the weather and even a calculator. All year levels took part in science experiments and activities in their classroom.

Foundation focused on the scientific method of predicting, testing and collecting data. They completed the experiments Mentos and coke, paper towel rainbow and shaving cream rain clouds.

1/2 completed a whole cohort experiment of elephant’s toothpaste and also took part in a skittles and dinosaur fossils experiment.

3/4s rotated through their science experiments. They created a hoop glider and completed experiments such as fizzy hands, paper towel rainbow and rain clouds in a jar.

The 5/6s completed the experiments Marshmallow catapults, colour changing milk, water fireworks and Non-Newtonian fluid.

After Recess Foundation and 1/2 participated in a science day parade where they showed off their costumes at the tiger turf. They then headed to the senior building where they watched the Mad Science Show. The students watched an engaging show where they learnt about air and electricity which included levitating beach balls and using static electricity to raise hairs.

After lunch the 3/4s and 5/6s attended the liquid nitrogen show. They learnt about the different states of matter and the effect liquid nitrogen has on these states such as freezing liquids and shattering solids.

Overall, it was a fantastic day had by all with lots of learning happening throughout the day.
