Principal's Report

Mrs Larissa Vesdrevanis

What an exciting week it has been at Donvale PS, especially with the Science Day, Ball sports activities, and our fabulous Colour Run that wrapped up the week on a high note.

Science Day

Learning science is a valuable pursuit for our students, as it allows them to experience the sheer joy of scientific discovery and nurture their innate curiosity about the world around them. Through this process, they develop critical and creative thinking skills, challenging themselves to ask thought-provoking questions. The wider benefits of fostering "scientific literacy" are well-established, as it equips students with the ability to investigate the natural world and understand the impact of human activity on it.

During Science Day, our students had the opportunity to engage in a range of  science and STEM experiments. Students  in Prep-2 were amazed by the Mad Science Show, while our Level 3-6 students were captivated by a Liquid Nitrogen show. The aim of hosting a whole-school science day is to ignite our students' curiosity and cultivate positive attitudes towards STEM by providing them with rich and authentic learning experiences. We are incredibly proud of our students' enthusiasm and eagerness to explore the wonders of science, and we look forward to more exciting educational opportunities in the future. Additionally, it was lovely to see the Prep to 2 children parade in their science dress ups.

Colour Run

Thank you to all of our Donvale families for your enthusiasm and support for the Whole School Fun Run. Together we have raised an impressive $26,000. Well done! I had a fabulous time running with the students. It was great way to connect with the community and share in our school spirit.  A special thank you to Wendy Bos for organising and coordinating the entire event along with the Ball Sports Day. Your commitment and dedication are much appreciated.

Late Arrival Process for parents/ Guardians

Having a consistent and punctual arrival to school is crucial for a positive start to the day. At Donvale PS, we strongly encourage parents to establish effective nighttime and morning routines to ensure their child arrives on time every day. However, we understand that unforeseen circumstances occasionally arise, leading to delays.

If you happen to arrive late, we kindly request that you accompany your child to the school office. There, your child will be signed in and provided with a late pass slip. Our office staff will then escort your child to their classroom, ensuring their safe arrival. In some cases, especially for students in the junior grades, we may ask you to personally accompany your child to their classroom. This routine is in place to accurately record your child's attendance and guarantee their safe arrival to the classroom. We value the importance of punctuality and appreciate your cooperation.
