Learning and Curriculum Primary - Stage 3

Curriculum and Learning - Stage 3

As we wrap up another successful term, we are filled with pride and gratitude for our school community. Congratulations to the boys who have upheld the high expectations inside and outside of the classroom and who have experienced growth because of their consistent application, commitment, responsibility, engagement, and conduct.

The middle of the academic year signals reports and interviews for our learners to receive affirmation and feedback, celebrate strengths and to continue to work on areas to continue to strengthen. Of course, to get to this point, the boys have done an incredible amount of work to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and skills across the eight Key Learning Areas.

Class Spotlight

5 Green

I have enjoyed doing PE because I liked how we played football and our teachers have been amazing and very helpful. I’ve also enjoyed it because I love hanging out with my friends and classmates.

I have greatly enjoyed everything I have done this year but most of all it has been writing that has stood out to me the most. My teacher has helped me, given feedback and helped me with my spelling all year and as a person who strives to be a good writer it has greatly helped me with my goals.
 Sebastian D

I have enjoyed literacy because I like working in groups with other people so I can express my ideas. I also enjoy reading different books and writing about them.

In Religious Education I have really enjoyed learning about the differences between the east and west churches such as how they hold their hands when they prayer the Our Father.
Darcy P
I have enjoyed plotting coordinates on the cartesian plane and am enjoying learning about using the formula for volume to work out different three-dimensional shapes in Mathematics.  Jordan M

In Italian we have been learning about the Serie A which is the national soccer league in Italy. We have also been learning about adjectives to describe people when speaking in Italian.  Christopher M

Year 6 - Term 2 Initiatives

It has been a privilege this term to watch our Year 6 students grow in confidence and embrace the opportunities offered to them. At the mid-point of the 2024 school year, I am impressed and encouraged by the boys’ enthusiasm, comradery, and determination.

Below are two such examples that have been shaped by our Year 6 Leaders, but also embraced by the cohort at large. I look forward to more initiatives, spirited engagement,

and learning, as the boys progress to their final semester of Primary education.

Year 6 Homeroom Briefings

Every Tuesday of Week A, the Year 6 cohort together with their teachers, gather in the Powell Pavilion for a homeroom briefing. These briefings are led by the Year 6 Leaders.

During the briefings, we provide updates on important daily notices, make announcements, and give reminders about upcoming events like the Athletics Carnival. So far, we have heard from Joseph (Hickey House Captain), Luka (Hickey Vice-Captain), Henry (Berg House Captain), Kane (Crichton House Captain). Owen and Frank (Junior School Vice-Captains) and I have also had roles in our briefings.

We have a roster of students who are responsible for leading each week. Those boys meet with Ms Capobianco the day before the briefing to discuss the agenda and put forward any ideas about messages that the cohort need to hear.

It is a great initiative as some boys that needed certain reminders can be reassured when three boys from the Leadership Team pass on both teacher and student messages.

On behalf of the Junior School Leadership Team, we would like to thank Ms Capobianco for her effort, creativity, and credibility in helping set up these fortnightly homeroom briefings.

Year 6 House Football Competition

During the term, the Junior School Leadership Team, with the support of Elie Badran, our Year 6 Prefect, has created a house sport initiative. This term we have been trialing football with Year 6.

Our competition is a round robin format with game length determined by time available. There are two teams per house and at the end of the round robin stage, the top eight teams fight it out for glory in the quarter finals, semi-finals, and grand final. The House Captains and Vice-Captains take on the roles of coaches for their house teams, making substitutions and giving advice.

The boys who are playing love the game and I can’t wait for Year 5 to join the competition next term. Special thanks to Ms. Capobianco, Elie, the Year 12 students who are helping as referees, and the boys who have helped organise and set up the initiative.
