Brooke's Message

Tuesday 21st May 2024

Hello Families,

We are just over the mid- point for the term and what a busy few weeks we have had.

Last week we had a surprise visit from Premier Jacinta Allen & local MP Steve McGhie who were taken on a guided tour by our school captains Tahnee & Julia. Jacinta was very impressed by the incredible work of MSS staff and students and spent much time talking with the captains, staff and students along the way. She talked with them about the successes and challenges of their school days and was so impressed by how well Julia and Tahnee could talk about the programs we run and the impact. She felt very lucky to have had Bunji on the tour too!

ES Day

Last week we celebrated Education Support Staff Day, without our Education Support Staff our school would not function. Words can barely express our gratitude for the amazing work our Education Support Staff do EVERY SINGLE DAY. Their dedication, patience, and unwavering support make this school a truly special place for our children.

Attendance

As a school we understand that sometimes it can be tricky getting kids to school. Our team has been working on strategies to encourage student attendance. So, this week we will be running a competition for students with a prize the whole family can share! All students who attend school for 10 days between May 20th & May 31st will be given a raffle ticket and go into the draw to win a hamper filled with goodies the whole family can share. Keep your eyes out for the WINNER!

Sorry Day

This coming Sunday May 26th is Sorry day, "Teaching our students about the Stolen Generations and the effect that it had and still has on Aboriginal and Torres Strait peoples is an important content area for all Australian students. The idea that someone can be taken from their family and, in some cases, never see them again is an idea that all students from an early age can empathise with.  Putting yourself in another person's shoes is a step on the road to reconciliation. As a school we will be recognising this day at school on Friday May 24th. Classes will have the opportunity to prepare an activity to commemorate the Stolen Generations, their families, and communities, celebrating their strength and survival and sharing in the process of healing and reconciliation.

Annual report to community

The Schools Annual Report was endorsed by School Council at the regular meeting last week.  This is now available on our website.  It was lovely to present this report to School Council and reflect on the amazing progress the school made last year.

Best wishes
