Intermediate Schools Cup

The EVP had an exciting weekend on the Gold Coast, with 67 athletes competing in the Intermediate Schools Cup. This state-based championship event features two age group divisions, Year 9 and Year 10, competing across various divisions. The Gap SHS proudly sent teams to represent our Year 9 and Year 10 cohorts, as well as two strong Year 8 teams who stepped up to challenge their volleyball skills against more experienced athletes. Our Year 8 girls and boys teams showed remarkable improvement, winning games against Year 9 athletes and displaying elite character, setting the stage for success at the Junior Schools Cup in October.

Our teams also secured an impressive three bronze medals, with two of these won in the Honours divisions. This outstanding achievement means our teams have qualified to compete at the highest level in the Australian Schools Cup event in December. Our Year 10 boys division 2 team was our first to secure 3rd place at the event. We then secured a 3rd place with a highly competitive Year 10 boys honours team competing in a field of 79 teams across all divisions, while our Year 9 girls honours team also secured the 3rd spot among 62 teams.

All our athletes competed with respect and challenged themselves to leave the weekend as better volleyballers than when they started. We are thrilled to see what the future holds for these young athletes as they take their experiences forward, motivated to excel at the Australian Schools Cup later this year.
