Dear families,

We are on the countdown to the end of Term 2. What a busy term of learning we have had. As we head into the school holidays, we hope you have a wonderful break, can find some time to do the special things your family enjoys.

Metro Canteen

Unfortunately, Metro Canteen has advised us that they can no longer support our school with Canteen services on Friday. Tomorrow will be the last day to order from Metro Canteen services as we will not be offering canteen lunches on the last day of term.

Subway lunches

Subway lunches have been a hit with our students. We will now be adding Subway lunches to our canteen on Friday, from the start of Term 3. This means Subway lunches are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays from the start of Term 3. Please note: you need to have placed your order by 8pm the night before to order Subway lunches.

Attendance

Regular school attendance is crucial for your child's academic and social development. Attending school consistently helps students build strong relationships, grasp essential concepts, and develop good habits that will benefit them throughout their lives. However, it's equally important to prioritise your child's health. If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home to rest and recover, helping to prevent the spread of germs and illnesses to their classmates and staff. By balancing regular attendance with mindful health practices, we can create a safe and thriving school environment for everyone.

We are noticing lots of our children arriving after the bell. It is so important that your child arrives to school on time as this sets a positive tone for the entire day. It allows students to settle in calmly, greet their friends and teachers, and prepare for the lessons ahead. Punctuality helps to instill discipline and responsibility, as well as minimizing disruptions to the class. When children arrive on time, they can participate fully in the morning routines and activities that set the foundation for their learning. It also ensures they don't miss any important instructions or announcements, making the day more productive and enjoyable for everyone.

Mid-Year Student Reports

In Week 10 Mid-Year Student Reports will be emailed to families. These reports will provide information about your child’s achievement and progress at school to this point of the year. As per department requirements, families receive two written reports each year (the end of Term 2 and Term 4), however, you are encouraged to make contact at any time or arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher if you require further information about their progress.

Student reports (Yrs 1-7) are based on a 5 point scale which reflects an A – E grade standard. A ‘C’ grade standard indicates that a student is achieving at the expected standard for their year level. Below is a summary of the grading scale and accompanying word descriptor used for mid-year and end of term reports:

A: Student is demonstrating excellent achievement of what is expected at this year level.

B: Student is demonstrating good achievement of what is expected at this year level.

C: Student is demonstrating satisfactory achievement of what is expected at this year level.

D: Student is demonstrating partial achievement of what is expected at this year level.

E: Student is demonstrating minimal achievement of what is expected at this year level

These grades are based on a range of assessment strategies teachers use to determine student achievement against the Australian Curriculum standards. Teachers make a balanced judgement to decide which grade best matches the standard the student has achieved.

If you have not received your child's report by Friday 5th June, please contact the office on 8264 2027 or email Kym on: kym.bennetts749@schools.sa.edu.au. It is important to note that the report is sent to parent 1 as indicated on the enrolment form unless other arrangements have been made. Families with shared custody will each receive a copy of the report.

Uniform Policy

We have recently updated our Uniform Policy and this policy has been ratified at last week's Governing Council meeting and uploaded to our school website. Please read through our Uniform Policy so your child has the correct uniform, ready to start Term 3. You can purchase school uniform items via Qkr! if you need school tops, jumpers, hats and beanies.

Book Week - Reading is Magic

It's time to start thinking about Book Week costumes for next term. The theme for Book Week this year is 'Reading is Magic'. Alanna has created some wonderful displays across the school in preparation of celebrating Book Week. Our Book Week Parade will be Tuesday, Week 5 of next term.

Book Week is one of my most favourite events of the school year. I love reading and sharing stories with my daughters when they were younger. Some of our favourite books to read together were Harry Potter series and The Gruffalo. This year's theme for Book Week is perfect as reading really is magic!

Fundraising - Schnitzel

Congratulations to our Modbury Community on our recent schnitzel fundraiser. The Modbury Hotel has kindly donated $360 to our school. There were 72 schnitzels sold on the night. Thank you to everyone who was able to contribute to this fundraiser for our school.

Emergency Procedures

As a Department for Education school, we are required to carry out Emergency drills each term. We support our students and practice Evacuations and Invacuations so we are familiar with our school processes. This week we practised an Invacuation, and our students and staff were competent in knowing what to do.

Newsletter Frequency

The frequency of the newsletter will change next term, as approved by the Governing Council. School newsletters will be issued in Weeks 1, 5 and 10 of each term.
