WHAT’S BEEN GOING ON IN MUSIC…
In the classroom
We have been focusing on Melody this term. The prep students have been learning how melody is created and notated. Through singing songs, using workbooks and participating in musical games, they have learnt how to identify and notate the line notes of the treble clef. The year 1/2 students have learnt how to notate the line and space notes of the treble clef, with a focus on ensuring that they can draw the notes clearly and accurately on the musical staff. They were also given mnemonic devices to help them memorise the treble clef notes. This is useful for students who are learning or wish to learn an instrument - as it helps them to recognise and play the correct notes on their instruments.
Examples of student work:
Year 3-6 students have started exploring how to use music notation and composition software via the online platform flat for education. This is a great skill for students to acquire early on as most musicians nowadays use music software to compose. Year 3/4 students have been exploring the different features of flat for education, and learning how to input treble clef and bass clef notes accurately and effectively into the system. Year 5/6 students have been tasked to create a simple melody of 4 bars or longer using flat for education in either the treble or bass clef.

Well done at class concert
I extend a huge congratulations and well done to our students at Holy Rosary for their spectacular efforts at class concerts last week! We had a variety of performances: guitars, drum, piano, singing, dancing, violin…the list goes on. It was lovely to see how supportive everyone was of each other’s performances, and I am so proud of everyone who went on stage to perform despite feeling nervous or scared. Thank you to all parents and carers who came and watched the performances - I know the students really appreciated your support and encouragement!
Choir and Rock band
The choir and rock band have been diligently practising during their lunchtimes to bring wonderful performances to the school community. I would like to say a big thank you to our HR choir especially for their amazing performance at assembly last week. Though I wasn’t at the assembly, I've heard great things about their performance. The rock band has also been practising hard - look forward to their performances coming soon!
