Brain Dissections

Our Year 11 Psychology class have been learning about the brain and the many components it's made up of. The class recently dissected sheep brains, during which they were required to locate and label the different areas, as well as develop an understanding of their specific roles in the brain's daily function.

Students observed the white and grey matter, cerebellum, thalamus and hypothalamus, pineal gland, medulla and the olfactory bulb, among many others. They also learned the importance of the gyri and sulci, the ridges and grooves on the brain's surface, and how they increase the surface area of the brain, allowing for greater cognitive processing.
