While Term One is a time for settling in and building routine, Term Two is typically one where we build the capacity of our students to navigate the important challenge of transition.
Transitioning can be a daunting time for students and has various manifestations. Our Year 12s, for example, are preparing to transition out of the College and the changes being contemplated are significant in the life of a teenager. Conversely, our Year 7s and 8s are beginning the process of contemplating what life will be like in their next Middle School year.
The Futures Hub works with intention across the school, not just to support Year 12s, but to develop a transition mindset. This term in particular, we have worked in a more dedicated way with Years 9, 10 and 12. Our focus with each cohort is reflected in the table below:
Year 9 | Year 10 | Year 12 |

Homeroom Mentor Teachers are also exposing students to post school study options and building their proficiency to navigate the QTAC course search sight, prior to Year 9 and 10 SET planning next term.
All parents are reminded that the College will be hosting Parent / Student Information Evenings on Tuesday 11 June. Sessions will be as follows:
Students should attend sessions in their uniform.
Parents are further reminded that part of a good transition program, is building in time for reflection, conversation and review. To that end, the College is hosting 30 minutes Progress Review Meetings led by the Homeroom Mentor Teacher for Year 7 and 8 students on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 July. Homeroom Mentor Teachers will also undertake SET planning mentor meetings with Year 9 students. These meetings are face to face.
Year 10 students will also be supported with SET planning and meet with their SET Planning Mentor for 30 minutes, at a scheduled time, on one of the following dates:
Parents are reminded that Thursday 11 July and Friday 12 July are pupil free. Other than to attend face to face meetings, students are to work from home.
If you are looking to support your child’s capacity to navigate transition, can I ask you to consider reviewing the School Leavers Information Kit | Your Career. There is useful information here for both parents and students, including various pathways students can explore.
Further, I would encourage all parents, including parents of Middle School students, to take advantage of University and TAFE Open Days. Opportunities such as these open up a world of possibilities young learners and can be invaluable in providing reassurance. Some of the Open Days coming up include:
