Franciscan Colleges Instrumental Program Term 2 News

Term 2 has already been full of outstanding musical performances from many of the ensembles that have graced the stage over a variety of events and concerts.

On Tuesday the 3oth April, parents and students that attended the annual Padua Year 5 “Mother Son Evening” were entertained by the glorious sounds of the Franciscan College “Junior Chamber Strings”. Please congratulate Mr Tweddell for his expertise and all the students involved in this special occasion.

Queensland Youth Music Awards (QYMA)

The Qld Youth Music Awards is soon becoming one of the most popular ensemble-based music events to be supported by many schools across  Southeast Queensland and showcases some of the best talent the state has to offer. This year we had two ensembles that represented the Franciscan Colleges Music Program on two separate occasions. The Wind Ensemble under the direction of Mr. Chris Hudson was the first to grace the stage. After a spirited performance of “The Great Locomotive Chase” and “All-Star,” they received a Gold Award and Second Place in the “B Grade Secondary Concert Band Section” out of 10 competing concert bands from Brisbane-based schools, This was a fantastic result, and all members should be very proud of their achievement. The other outstanding performance was from the Intermediate String Orchestra in the Secondary B Grade String Orchestra section held most recently on the 27th of May. They also received a “Gold Award” and 3rd place out of 5 ensembles under the expert direction of Mrs. Meg Jamieson.

Rock Symphony (25th and 26th of May) “Movie Magic”

This exciting event saw the combination of Current FCIP senior musicians with the talents of the St Anthonys Senior Choir, Padua Greccio Rock Voices, Padua Assisi Vocal Ensemble, and the Mount Alvernia College Choir. Also in attendance were some alumni singers and musicians from all colleges to assist in the performance. Both performances created many wonderful musical moments with a standing ovation on Sunday evening to celebrate such a wonderful and joyous occasion. No event like this would happen without the support of great staff, talented students, and supportive parents.
