From the Principal

As you will already know, our 2024 Open Day is fast approaching this weekend with a record-breaking number of 1900+ people registered for this coveted and much loved day in our College calendar.  We cannot wait to host our prospective families and welcome our future students. In advance of the big day, I wish to thank for their dedication and commitment, our college staff, our 150 student volunteers, Parent Partnership Panel, and FCIP families and ensembles. We cannot wait so see some of you there!

In this weeks’ abridged edition of our newsletter, I wish to also thank the parents and carers who took time out of their busy schedules to connect with their child’s subject teachers last week in our ‘parent student teacher conferences’. We trust that these exchanges were meaningful and productive for you, in informing you of your daughter’s learning and progress at the College. We commend all of our students for their commitment demonstrated so far this year and ask you to continue to work with us in partnership to ensure that they are feeling prepared, well rested (and fed!) as we head towards our examinations and assessments. This is particularly true also, as mid term often presents us with the challenges of malaise, unkempt uniforms, rocky peer group dynamics and absenteeism. As always, we work together to ensure our students continue to maintain high standards in their word, deeds and spirit. We know that we have your support in this.

Congratulations to our 22 students and 1 staff member who “Rocked the Chop” this week on assembly. Once again, we continue to smash all records, with over $16,000 raised for the Cancer Council. This is outstanding! Thank you to everyone in the community who sponsored our students and staff member.

Next week we look forward to our much-anticipated FCIP Rock Symphony…What a treat! I believe there may be a few tickets remaining, please click on this link if you still need to purchase yours here.

Whilst we celebrated Elizabeth Hayes week last week, I wish to end my fortnightly entry this week by acknowledging the profound and continuing legacy she leaves us. Her sensitivity to victims of hardship, war and human suffering is expressed in her personal prayer which reads:

O my God,

I pray for all those who are suffering from cold, hunger, nakedness and weariness: who are wandering homeless and defenseless.

l pray especially for women and children that these their sufferings may not be to them an occasion of sin…

I pray to You for all who are suffering from distress of mind arising from any cause whatsoever.

I beseech You to save them from despair and to grant them the consolations of the faith.

Whilst God’s call took Elizabeth to many parts of the world, her pioneering spirit lives on today through the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception who continue her legacy in communities in Egypt, Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Ireland, Great Britain, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Chad and South Sudan. It also lives on every day in the fortitude, goodwill and compassion of many in our own community here at Mt A.

Peace and all good,

Samantha Jensen
