Use of VPN Services

28 June 2024

“Use of VPN (Virtual Private Network) services while connected to the school's network.

Recently, there have been instances where students have installed free VPN services on their devices while connected to the school's Wi-Fi. While VPNs can offer benefits such as enhanced security and privacy, there are significant risks associated with their use in our school environment.

Potential Risks:

  1. Security Concerns: Free VPN services may not provide adequate security measures, potentially exposing your devices and data to malicious actors.
  2. Access to Inappropriate Content: VPNs can bypass content filters put in place by the school to ensure a safe browsing environment. This could lead to accessing inappropriate or prohibited content.
  3. Policy Violation: The use of VPNs to intentionally bypass the school's internet infrastructure is against school policy. Our network is designed to prioritise educational resources and ensure a safe online experience for all students.

Action Required:

If your child has installed or you are considering installing a VPN on while connected to the school's network, we urge you to remove it immediately. Continuing to use VPNs in violation of school policy may result in disciplinary action.”
