Foundation Unit

In Phonics, students have been continuing to develop their letter sound knowledge. The students have also continued to complete daily dictation, practising reading and writing words with sounds they have learnt in class.

In Reading, the students have been listening to stories and practising how to summarise the story. The students have been encouraged to recall important events that happened in the story and retell these events in order.

This fortnight in Writing, students have been creating their own non-fiction book about living things. All students chose a living thing and wrote about what they need to survive, drew their lifecycle, labelled a picture and included a fun fact. The students really enjoyed creating their own books.

This week, the students have begun writing opinion pieces. Students have been listening to stories and writing about their favourite part. The students have also been working on using the conjunction ‘because’ to help explain their favourite part.

In Maths, the students have been working on partitioning. They have been investigating numbers from 4-10 and the different ways to make these numbers such as 4 and 2 is 6. The students have focused on a number a day and are now looking at the different ways to make 10. They have learnt maths games such as ‘Snap’ and ‘Go Fish’ that could also be played and practised at home.

The students have continued to participate in our PMP program. They are continuing to develop their hand eye coordination, balancing skills and eye tracking skills. The students rotate through a range of activities including hopping, jumping, throwing, catching, balancing, running and crawling. Thank you to those who have volunteered to assist us with the program.
