PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

On Wednesday six of our students competed in Melbourne at the State Athletics. Conditions were very warm and presented tough conditions for our competitors. Unfortunately, Mania was unwell and unable to participate in his events, the 800m and the 1,500m. Alaska was also not a 100% and did extremely well to run her 800m regardless, finishing in 14th place. The day also saw Alaska compete in the relay with Georgia, Grace and Harper who as a team were very competitive in their heat. Our last event for the day included Georgia in the hurdles who sadly was injured and unable to finish your event. We thank our parents who made time to take their children to Melbourne for this event and terrific opportunity.

Wednesday also saw our first Prep Transition day with 42 kinder kids joining us for the morning. Our 2025 Prep Team of Mrs Riddle, Mrs Hawthorne and Mrs Murray are to be congratulated on setting up a fabulous morning of activities to ensure our new little people felt comfortable, engaged in interesting tasks and had opportunities to connect with others. This was followed up with our Prep Information night, where staff shared with parents helpful tips for the year ahead.  We look forward to our kinder kids joining us again next week for their second session.

As the 2024 year starts to close, we are currently working on finalising our planning for 2025. This includes ensuring we have a grade structure that best supports student learning and relationships. Along with our 42 foundation students starting we also have several other students joining our school in 2025 with families relocating to Hamilton for work. Our current prediction is that we will have 290 students in 2025 however to ensure we are accurate with our planning we ask any families to let us know if their plan for 2025 is changing.

The second half of this term will no doubt go quickly with the calendar full of many end of year events. On Wednesday November 20th we have the combined Carol’s Festival with our choir singing at St Mary’s Catholic Church with other schools and Parents and friends are welcome to attend.  This is an event Mrs Garland and her students are very excited about.

We also have a Curriculum Day in the same week with teachers writing reports on Friday November 22nd. A reminder that no students are required at school on this day, but OSHC will be available for families. During this week I will be on Long Service Leave for three days from Wednesday November 20th – Friday November 22nd.

Finally a reminder that Year 5 and 6 camp is just around the corner and that payments are due next week.

Next week we will acknowledge Remembrance Day on Monday with a short reading followed by a minutes silence at 11:00am.
