Japanese

In Japanese we have been using a lot of repetition to solidify our conversational Japanese. Students in Grades 3-6 can all have a basic conversation conversing with pleasantries about how they are, the weather, their age and names.

Grade 3 students have been practicing ordering from a juice bar and got to put this into practice at a live juice bar where they received juice and fruit if they asked for it in Japanese. They had impeccable manners, and made comments about how yummy it was – all in Japanese!

Grade 4 classes know all about 5 lucky charms in Japan. Most impressively they can identify the hiragana characters that are associated with each one. We have been using STEAM activities, playing games, and incorporating ICT into our learning.

Grade 5 and 6 students have been rehearsing for a play called ‘The Big Turnip’, in Japanese ‘Ooki na Kabu’. Whilst learning their lines and perfecting pronunciation of tricky phrases, they have also planted some turnips that we are hoping will be big, too!
