We had a very busy first term in Grade 4 below are the topics that have been explored by the students across the Year Level.
Reading:
Students have been engaged in exploring different strategies for the comprehension of different texts. The have been been developing their ability to; identify character traits, compare and contrast different texts, make inferences, summarise main points, identifying author’s messages, and also connection with texts on various levels.
The students have also completed a shared reading of the text ‘Holes’, at the completion of reading the book we watched the film to see how accurate the adaptation was of the film. Students also completed work with comparing characters and writing a review on the text or movie.
Writing:
This term, students have been exploring the writing process, planning and creating their own piece of writing with the purpose to entertain. Students have explored the notion of adding detail to events in their writing to make it more engaging, structuring their piece in a logical way through the use of paragraphs. They have revised and edited their work with the final outcome being a published piece.
Maths:
In the past two fortnights, in Grade 4, we have been doing a lot of cool fun experiences in maths. We have been exploring subtraction, addition and chance. We even got a chance to meet the ThinkSquare creator Andrew. ThinkSquare is a maths sites allowing for online play. In chance, we have been doing some fun experiments like a coin tossing game, beam bag throwing and more. In subtraction and addition, we have had a lot of fun and figuring out ways to do harder equations like vertical addition and subtraction with renaming and borrowing.
Inquiry:
Throughout the term with have been investigating rules and democracy. This has involved looking at the various levels of government and what they are responsible for. We also investigated how governments are elected through the voting process and why that is a democratic process.
