Music and the Brain
Music is more than just entertainment; it is a powerful tool that enhances brain function, improves learning, and nurtures emotional well-being. Research has shown that engaging with music, whether through playing an instrument, singing, or listening, can have profound effects on cognitive development and overall mental health.
Music stimulates multiple areas of the brain, particularly those responsible for memory, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Students who engage with music often show improvements in concentration, language skills, and spatial reasoning. These skills boost memory and cognitive ability.
Music also has a unique ability to influence mood and emotions. It helps reduce stress, anxiety, and the feeling of being overwhelmed. It can provide students with an outlet for self-expression and relaxation. Listening to or creating music can also increase the production of dopamine, which promotes motivation and happiness.
Over the next two weeks we have an opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the many musical talents we have within the Junior School. Both our Junior School music night and Year Four strings concert will provide wonderful moments to recognize the dedication, perseverance and teamwork displayed by each boy who will take the stage.
LifeLink Launch
On Wednesday, 4 June Mrs. Allen and four Junior School prefects attended the Life Link Launch at Newman College. Marcos Neves, Marcus Erceg, Gideon Quinn- Smith and Loui Parkyn represented our student boy, taking in messages from the Archbishop on how LifeLink has, and continues to, assist those less fortunate than us within the Western Australian community.
Pink Sock Round
Our fixture against Wesley coincided with our 2025 pink sock round. Now in the tenth year, the TC community has raised over $27,000 for the McGrath Foundation. We thank those who donated to the wonderful cause this year, and over the past decade. It was wonderful to see so many Junior School boys wearing pink clothing items.
