Solidarity Mass
Our annual Solidarity Mass was held on Thursday 22nd May, during periods three and four. We celebrate this day every year as a sign of solidarity with all people who are vulnerable and struggling, which is especially relevant as we celebrate our Year of Hospitality - Open Minds💡, Open Hearts❤️, Open Hands👐.
In very practical ways, we support the St Vincent de Paul organisation in Springvale. They do amazing work offering food and clothes, housing and rent relief to the people in our community.
Each class had a basket for St Vinnies and were asked to donate everyday household necessities like dry goods, long-life milk and toiletries.
Thank you to our wonderful Killester families for your generosity and support, and for the cash donations from students, which will be spent by St Vinnies on more specific emergency requirements as they arise.
Year Eleven & Twelve - Jump Start Program
The Multiplex Jump Start program is a unique mentoring initiative offered to female and gender diverse high school students in years 10-12. It is designed to offer participants a valuable insight into what a career in the construction industry could offer, as well as the diverse career paths available in the industry such as Engineering, Architecture, Design, Project Management etc. We were very fortunate to offer this experience to 10 Killester College students.
Multiplex is a tier one global Construction company, in operation in Australia for over 60 years. There current Melbourne based projects include 53-storey commercial tower at 435 Bourke Street, which the students got to participate in a site walk during the first workshop. The second workshop was a Panel of Women in Construction and the third workshop was about Engineering and being part of a team building exercise.
This was a wonderful opportunity for a small number of year 11 and 12 students that will have an opportunity to apply for the Cadet/Graduate program.
Thank you to Multiplex for putting together an inspiring program and taking the time to share with our future Women in Construction.
A word from our students who attended:-
Recently, we and eight other students participated in the Jumpstart program with Multiplex, an international construction contractor who has had a key role in shaping Melbourne's skyline. Participating in the Jumpstart program was a wonderful opportunity to understand the role of different disciplines working together to construct buildings residential, commercial, industrial.
Our first workshop was on the 19th of May. Students made the commute to the Multiplex office on Queen Street, where we were met with the program coordinators and split into groups amongst other schools. We were first introduced to Multiplex and its current project, 435 Bourke Street. Participants were told about the sustainability goals of their new project. It was fascinating to learn about how sustainability was incorporated into the building. For example, solar panels were integrated into the building facade, and the cranes were fuelled with hydro-treated vegetable oil. We were then taken across the road to see the unfinished site ourselves. It was amazing to see the bones of the project before it had been completed. Overall workshop one was wonderful, but the next workshops were even better!
On Friday the 13th of June, we visited the Multiplex Head Office for the first time, where the ‘Women in Construction’ discussion panel was being held, showcasing many of the roles that people had in the 435 Bourke Street Site, including people from Multiplex, key consultants and CBUS, their client. It was very interesting hearing about the different perspectives that people with different roles had working on the same project. It highlighted the different pathways that you could take to undergo these different roles, such as through TAFE or university courses. Afterwards, we were free to discuss with the panellists during morning tea and I had a great time talking to them one-on-one.
The third workshop on the 23rd of June (once again at Multiplex Head Office) focused around the engineering aspect of construction, and it allowed us an opportunity to work collaboratively in randomised groups, to construct our own towers out of paper straws, whilst accommodating to our ‘client’ and their budget. We were each given forty minutes and told that our models would be tested based on the height of the tower, its strength, the hypothetical cost, and creativity. Many towers were able to withstand up to 8kg. It was a great experience to view firsthand the different approaches each group had, and was very fun to participate in!
Overall, the three workshops provided us a great headstart and insight into the construction industry, and we would definitely recommend the Jumpstart program to anyone who may be interested in attending in the future, especially if you are interested in the careers that Multiplex offers.

High School Musical Hoodies are Here!
There’s been an addition to the Killester school uniform. The High School Musical on Stage hoodies have arrived. And according to Sharpay, they’re looking FABULOUS!!!
Cast and crew have been rocking them for their tri-weekly rehearsals. The whole team can’t wait to showcase their talents, so keep an eye out for the announcement of ticket sales. A reminder that performance dates are August 14- 16. We can’t wait for you to join us to prove that Killester is all in this together.
School Production Goes to the Drum
It was an exciting day on Wednesday, the 18th July, when our fabulous cast had the opportunity to rehearse at the beautiful Drum Theatre in Dandenong. This was an incredibly valuable experience for the cast and production team. Rehearsing on the actual stage allows our cast to develop their performance skills and gain a true understanding of how the set and props will work in performance. We were able to run the whole show and were so impressed with the dedication, determination and talent of our cast and crew.
It sounds fantastic already, and with a number of holiday and Sunday rehearsals to go, we are confident of bringing a fantastic show to the stage. Tickets will go on sale in a couple of weeks. We have kept ticket prices low so that all of our Killester family and friends can come along and enjoy this great show. Keep an eye on our socials for a peek behind the scenes.
We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors who support our artistic endeavours. Please support them:

Year Ten - Textiles: Fashion Workshop
During Semester One, while studying their Year 10 Fashion Workshop elective, students researched an Australian fashion designer. Their aim was to fuse specific design features to adapt and create a skirt during production classes. Students all started with white fabric, but chose their style of skirt, design features and embellishments. Students maintained a folio of work which included research, fashion sketches, and samples, showing production processes to accompany their work.

Year Ten - Textiles: Showcasing Creativity and Craftsmanship
This semester, our Year 10 Textiles students have truly impressed us with their creativity, dedication, and growing technical skills. Both classes were challenged to research and select an Australian designer whose style inspired them. Using this research as a foundation, students developed design concepts that reflected their chosen designer’s aesthetic.
To bring their ideas to life, my class began constructing corsets using plain white fabric. Some chose to dye their fabric to match the colour palette of their designer’s current collection, while others took a sustainable approach by selecting off-cut fabrics available in the Textiles room. These thoughtful decisions not only enhanced the visual appeal of their corsets but also encouraged students to consider the ethical impact of fashion design.
In conclusion to this Semester, Ms. Kordupel and myself proudly paired the finished corsets with skirts, showcasing the full outfits as a testament to the students’ hard work and creativity. We commend our Year 10 students for their dedication and look forward to seeing how they continue to develop as young designers.
