From the

Head of  Senior School

Dear BMGS Senior School Community,

It has been a vibrant and purposeful week across the Senior School, with students engaged in a wide range of academic, co-curricular, and community-focused activities that exemplify our commitment to Good Learning, Doing Good.

🌼 Project Daffodil – Intergenerational Learning in Action

As part of our Odyssey program, Year 7 students have begun an inspiring design journey through Project Daffodil. Partnering with residents from Morven Gardens and Bodington Hill Aged Care Homes, students—supported by Year 11 mentors—have embarked on a real-world challenge to explore how technology can enhance the everyday lives of older Australians.

This week’s visit focused on the Empathise phase of the Design Thinking process, where students interviewed residents to understand their needs and stories. The response from the aged care homes was heartwarming:

“OMG our residents had a FANTASTIC time… They thought all the students were beautiful, so well spoken, bright, happy and intelligent.”

We are excited to see what creative and compassionate solutions will emerge as students move through the remaining stages of the design process in the coming weeks.

🎤 Blue Mountains Debating

Our BMGS debaters represented the School proudly at St Columba’s. We congratulated them for their confidence, teamwork, and critical thinking. Thank you to the dedicated staff who supported them throughout the event.

🧭 Wild Education – Building Grit and Leadership

Our Wild Ed program continues to challenge students to step outside their comfort zones and into the wild. Years 9–11 have been developing navigation skills, learning to read maps and compasses, and even navigating solo at night. Year 10 students are taking on leadership roles by mentoring Year 9s, while Year 11 are refining advanced techniques under more difficult conditions. It’s been a fantastic opportunity for students to build resilience, confidence and real-world capability.

🎓 Academic Focus and Integrity

This week, students and staff have continued to engage with our Senior School Assessment Policy framework. These discussions are part of our commitment to transparent, fair and supportive academic practices that empower students to take ownership of their learning.

📣 Assemblies and Academic Competitions

Years 10–12 gathered for a Senior School Assembly, while students in Years 7–9 took part in Extended Tutor sessions. Year 7-10 students also participated in the Big Science Competition, testing their problem-solving and scientific reasoning in a national challenge. Thank you to all staff involved in the coordination and supervision of these events.

🏉 NSW Blues Visit

We were thrilled to welcome the NSW Blues to our campus this week as they prepare for the 2025 State of Origin series. Despite the cold and rain, their visit was a highlight, and their resilience and professionalism left a lasting impression on students and staff alike.

As always, thank you to our students, staff, and families for the energy and support you bring to our community. We look forward to the weeks ahead as we continue to learn, grow and contribute together.

Best regards,
