John XXIII Rowing Club

Dear Rowing Families
Regatta season is in full swing with the boys’ squad competing in the Mettam’s long-distance race at Canning Bridge last week and the girls’ squad competing in the second IGSSA regatta this weekend.
The Year 8 rowers are building their skills, and it was great seeing crews this week row all together. A signup sheet for the All Schools regatta will be sent out soon.
Regatta Fundraising Success
As a result of the efforts of many families, we had a wonderful day hosting the IGSSA Rowing Regatta on 10 May. Thanks to a dedicated band of volunteers, which included a hardworking group of Year 10 and Year 11 boy rowers, we raised $8,400 towards the rowing programme. Many in our community assisted in making the BBQ stall, cake stall, raffle, and plant stall the best ever. Thank you so much from the Rowing Committee.
Mettams Long Distance Regatta
The boys’ squad took the opportunity to race in the long-distance race at Canning Bridge. The doubles and singles raced 3km and the quads and eight raced 4.5km, starting in Shelley and racing back to Canning Bridge.

2025 Year 8 Learn to Row
Our Year 8 Learn to Row sessions have commenced with almost 50 Year 8s experiencing rowing, many for the first time. Their skill level is rapidly developing and they are getting further and further each session, with many crews rowing as a whole crew, which relies on balance and timing with each other.
Details will soon be sent out regarding the opportunity to compete in the All Schools regatta. I realise the first regatta that the Year 8’s were going to race in coincides with the Music Camp. We are looking into other possibilities for racing and will communicate these with rowers and parents as soon as possible.
A WhatsApp group will also be developed, and all parents and Year 8s will have their email added to the Stack Team app that the Rowing Club uses for communication about regattas. You can still contact me on email in the meantime.
Year 7 Learn to Row
The Year 7 Learn to Row program will be held in Term 3, details and registration will be sent out towards the end of the term.
Please contact me if you have any queries.
Uniforms
The new Zootsuit is now in stock at the Uniform Shop. There is also a training top which can be worn under the zootsuit. The only compulsory item is the Zootsuit for racing at regattas. There is stock of the old Zootsuit which can be worn. Year 8s can wear their PE uniform to race in and are not required to purchase a Zootsuit.
Stack Team App
Please download the Stack Team App if you have not already done so. This app is one of our main avenues for communication with rowers and their parents. This is the central place for training schedules, training updates, and rowers can contact their coach in case of illness or injury and missed trainings. It is important that all rowers and parents have access.
To get this app please go to the App Store or Google Play and download Stack Team App onto your mobile device, then follow these simple steps:
- Sign-up to Stack Team App. You’ll be sent an email to confirm your registration.
- Log-in and search for JTCRC, then request to become a member.
