Dear Families

National Reconciliation Week (Monday 27 May to 3 June) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for National Reconciliation Week commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2025, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. As outlined at last week’s assembly by Faith and Mission Captains, Luke and Logan, reconciliation isn’t just a moment; it’s an ongoing journey that calls on each of us to acknowledge the impact of our history, the truth of our past and playing our part in working together toward healing and justice for Indigenous Australians. At a time when Australia faces uncertainty in its reconciliation journey, this theme calls on all Australians to step forward together.

Reconciliation Week coincides with Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Week. Years 7 and 9 students will work in classes to build a symbolic ‘bridge of commitment’ to reconciliation and lunchtime activities will include an indigenous themed documentary screening, reconciliation colouring in competition and a reconciliation Amazing Race. The annual HASS Week BBQ on Friday, 30 May, will raise money for indigenous support programs run by Caritas. There will also be Magis Homeroom challenges taking place throughout the week.

Congratulations to all musicians who performed at last week’s Autumn Soiree where the audience was entertained by a wonderful showcase of the various ensembles within the Music Program. Well done to Year 12 students, who on Monday cut and shaved their hair in support of the World’s Greatest Shave. All the best to the ACC Cross-Country Team, who have been training hard in preparation for next Thursday’s Interschool carnival.

Japanese Cultural Exchange – Host Family Opportunity

Following a successful exchange program last year, in August, we will once again welcome Years 10 to 12 Japanese students from Osaka, Japan, for a six-night cultural exchange, and families are invited to host a student as a member of their family for the short stay. The program does not require families to plan special activities or outings, as these will be catered for as part of the cultural exchange experience with the College. All families are welcome to participate, regardless of their child's year level, and host families will receive $330 per student to help cover expenses for their hospitality.

Our trusted partner, Gold Educational Tours, coordinates all aspects of the visit and provides 24/7 support throughout the experience, ensuring a smooth and rewarding exchange for everyone involved.

Ready to connect your child to Japan? Register here.

Community Planting - Thank you

Thank you to everyone who attended our Community Planting and Weeding Day! Together, we planted over 70 trees, which will serve as a vital food source for the endangered Carnaby's Black Cockatoos. We're so grateful to everyone who contributed their time and energy. This planting day is just one part of our ongoing conservation and sustainability efforts – we're committed to environmental stewardship across our campus and in our broader community. Your participation helps strengthen our local ecosystems and protect biodiversity for generations to come.
