Year 5-10 da Vinci Decathlon
In Week 4, representatives from St Pius X College travelled to Knox Grammar School to compete in the da Vinci Decathlon, an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: engineering, mathematics and chess, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.
While each of the teams in Years 7-10 did not place in any of the disciplines, all students involved should be very proud of their efforts. Each member of the St Pius X team has been great ambassadors for the program and should be proud of their achievements.
Year 5 students placed 3rd in Ideation which focuses on creative problem-solving, innovation, and critical thinking. Participants are challenged to generate original ideas, think outside the box, and develop solutions to complex problems, often in response to real-world scenarios or hypothetical situations. The ideation category encourages students to embrace Leonardo da Vinci’s spirit of curiosity and interdisciplinary thinking, combining elements of science, technology, engineering, and the arts.
The team members for each year group are:
Year 5: Hugo Farmer, Sam Lam, Xander Playle, Emile Roth, James Rowlands, Tom Selby, Kent Sobey, Josh Wroblewski

They achieved 1st place in Legacy (general knowledge), 2nd place in Cartography (geography) and 2nd place in Poetry and Art.
The team consisted of Oliver Butler, Michael Cheah, Enzo Gambino, Aiden Kiem, Aiden Lindsay, Alexander Tharakan, Thomas Wong and Kieran Yu.
