Reflection: The Ascension of Jesus – Rising with Purpose

As we reflect on the Ascension of Jesus, we are invited to pause and consider what it means for our lives today. The image of Jesus rising into the heavens is powerful - not just because of the miracle it represents, but because of the message it leaves behind.

After His resurrection, Jesus spent time with His disciples, walking with them, teaching them, and preparing them for what was to come. Then, in a moment both awe-inspiring and mysterious, He ascended into heaven. But He didn’t leave them empty-handed. He left them with a mission, a promise, and a hope.

'You will be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth.'

These words remind us that we, too, are called to be witnesses - to live lives of love, truth, and service. The Ascension is not just about Jesus going up; it’s about us stepping forward.

In our school community, this can mean:

Reaching out to someone who feels left out.

Standing up for what is right, even when it’s hard.

Using our talents to bring joy and help to others.

Trusting that we are never alone, even when we face challenges.

The Ascension also reminds us that our journey doesn’t end here. Just as Jesus rose, we are called to rise - to grow in faith, in kindness, and in courage. We are part of a bigger story, one filled with purpose and guided by love.

Let us take a moment to reflect:

Where is God calling me to rise today?

How can I be a witness to hope in my school, my family, or my community?

What gifts has God given me that I can use to make a difference?

As we look up, may we also look within - and step forward with hearts full of faith and hard work.

Living the Edmund Rice Charism: Growing a Culture of Compassion in Our School

At the heart of our College community is something deeply meaningful - something that shapes how we learn, how we treat one another, and how we see the world. That something is the Edmund Rice charism.

Inspired by the life and mission of Blessed Edmund Rice, our charism calls us to live with faith, courage, compassion, and a deep commitment to justice. It’s more than a tradition - it’s a way of being that helps us build a school culture where everyone feels valued, included, and empowered.

What Does the Edmund Rice Charism Look Like in St Pius X College?

  • We show compassion by looking out for one another, especially those who are struggling or feel left out.

  • We act for justice by standing up for what’s right, whether it’s through service projects, awareness campaigns, or simply treating others with fairness and respect.

  • We build community by creating a sense of belonging where every student, teacher, and family member feels welcome.

  • We reflect and grow by taking time to think about our actions and how we can live more fully in the spirit of the Gospel.

Why It Matters

A positive school culture doesn’t just happen - it’s something we create together. When we live out the Edmund Rice charism, we help shape a school where:

  • Students feel safe to be themselves.

  • Teachers lead with heart and purpose.

  • Families feel connected and supported.

  • Everyone is encouraged to make a difference.

A Living Legacy

The Edmund Rice charism is a gift we carry forward - not just in our classrooms, but in our friendships, our choices, and our hopes for the future. As we continue to grow as a community, let’s keep asking ourselves: How can I live the charism today?

Together, let’s continue to build a culture that reflects the best of who we are - and who we’re called to be.

Celebrating Excellence in Learning from our Term 1 reports

Outstanding Achievement in Student Learning Attributes

We are incredibly proud to recognise the exceptional efforts of our students who achieved an ‘Outstanding’ average across all 5 Student Learning Attributes in Term 1.

These students have consistently demonstrated excellence in areas such as engagement, responsibility, collaboration, resilience, and critical thinking - qualities that are at the heart of lifelong learning and personal growth.

Their commitment to learning, positive attitude, and dedication to continuous improvement set a shining example for our entire school community. This achievement reflects not only academic success but also the strength of character and a growth mindset.

Congratulations to all our outstanding learners! Your hard work and perseverance have not gone unnoticed, and we are excited to see how you continue to grow and inspire others.

Let’s continue to support and celebrate each other’s learning journeys and I hope to see many more students names from our Semester 1 reports.

Reminder: Staff Formation Day Friday 6 June - Pupil-Free Day

Please note that on Friday 6 June there will be a pupil-free day.  This means no classes will be held and students are not required to attend school on this day.  All St Pius X staff will be involved in a formation day at our Oxford Falls Campus. Please keep us in your prayers as a staff deepen their connection of the unfolding story of Blessed Edmund Rice.

We appreciate your support and understanding.

Cocurricular Program

Considering the amount of rain we had last week, we were able to play most of our rugby and football matches.

Congratulations all our teams who achieved success last week in both rugby and football! Your hard work, teamwork, and determination truly paid off.

A special acknowledgement to our dedicated coaches who supported our rugby teams during their matches in Bathurst and Orange - your guidance and commitment make all the difference.

Let’s keep the momentum going this weekend during our Reconciliation round.
