Principal's Report

It has been another great fortnight here at Andersons Creek Primary School, filled with engaging activities, deep learning and significant events.

Our Grade 6 students recently led a fantastic Working Bee—a student-driven initiative that saw our senior students take responsibility for improving our school environment. With the support of staff and families, they dismantled old garden beds, moved soil, blew down paths, cleaned out the PE storeroom and shed, sorted the lost property area, and gave the gardens a great tidy-up. Their hard work suitably rewarded with a Sausage in Bread! It was a great day and I loved working alongside our students and Grade 6 teachers as we worked as a team to accomplish our long list of jobs. I know the students enjoyed it and I was so proud to see their wonderful display of teamwork, leadership, and pride in our school.

We’ve also seen some exciting additions to our school grounds, with the installation of colourful new Playground Shop Fronts along our Traffic Safety Bike Course. Generously funded by the Lions Club and beautifully constructed by Rob Doekes—one of our talented grandparents—these shop fronts add the perfect finishing touch to this play and learning space. They are already being well used and sparking imaginative play. I have personally purchased hot dogs, hot chips, milkshakes and an array of perfumes from these stores already.  Though I do question the prices sometimes with hotdogs valued anywhere between $2 - $1million :) We are extremely grateful to Rob for the care and craftsmanship he brought to the project, and extend our sincere thanks to Gavin Andrew and John Meagher for their time and hard work helping to install them. A huge thank you to the Lions Club for funding this great project.

We held our highly anticipated Silent Disco! Students had an absolute blast dancing the night away with glowing headphones, energetic music, and lots of laughter. A big thank you to Bocca for supporting our pizza dinner beforehand—it was the perfect way to fuel up before hitting the dance floor. We’re also incredibly grateful to Kim Thompson from our local Warrandyte Silent Disco company for supporting the event and to all of our parent helpers and staff that helped to create such a memorable experience for our students.

Story Time afternoon for prospective 2026 Prep families commenced a couple of weeks ago. It was wonderful to see so many new families joining us and getting a glimpse into the warm, welcoming community that makes ACPS so special. These sessions offer a lovely way for children to become familiar with our environment and start building positive connections before they begin school.

Our Grade 3 and 4 students have had a particularly rich couple of weeks of learning and adventure. Their visit to the Historic Warrandyte Museum last week allowed them to explore how our local area has changed over time, sparking great curiosity and discussion. This historical lens flowed beautifully into their recent camp at Camp Jungai in Rubicon, where students embraced cultural learning activities, adventure activities and independence setting up house in their cabins. The camp provided meaningful opportunities to step outside the classroom and apply their learning in hands-on, real-world ways. It was great to go along and observe our students absolutely flourishing across the duration of the camp. They embraced everything with a positive attitude, supported one another, and made the most of every opportunity. A huge thank you to Miss Buzzini, Ms M and Mrs Eastwood for all of their work in planning and facilitating the camp. Thank you also to Jesse, Kane, Duncan and Mark who came along and supported as parent helpers.

To round out the fortnight, students across the school took part in National Simultaneous Story Time—a much-loved event that connects thousands of children across the country through the shared joy of reading. This year’s story was The Truck Cat by Deborah Niland, a tale that captured students’ imaginations with its themes of adventure, belonging, and friendship. Thank you to Ms Zanatta for overseeing this event and creating a special moment of connection across the school and a reminder of how powerful and joyful storytelling can be.

Thank you, as always, to our staff, families, and students for your energy, enthusiasm, and support that enables community spirit thriving across the school.
