YEAR THREE
ENGLISH
The Year 3 children have continued their work on syllable division types for reading and spelling. They have been reviewing both open and closed syllable types to help decode and encode words. They have been doing fast fluency for words ending in '-tion'.
In writing, the Year 3 children have bee working to convert their note taking and dot points into expanded sentences. They have been composing Single Paragraph Outlines which are planners for a paragraph, and then converting them into body paragraphs. They have been focusing on adding time connectives to link events in chronological order. The children are continuing to pratice their cursive writing, which they are amazing at!
MATHS
As it is Maths assessment week, the Year 3 students have been using the Chrome Books to access Essential Assessment.
Alongside this, they have continued their unit on Measurement, using metric units of measurement to compare mm, cm, m and km. They have enjoyed using 30cm rulers, 1m rulers and the trundle wheels to measure a range of objects around the school.
NOTE:
This week is such a great opportunity to see how Sacred Heart incorporates multiple exposures to key concepts across year levels, whilst extending students as they work their way through the school.
Continuing their novel study, the Year 4 students have been working to expand their notetaking dotpoints into sentences. Additionally, they are incorporating time connectives to their work to show the order in which events took place. The Year 4 students have been working to upgrade their vocabulary, idetifying the transition between spoken and written language.
The students continue to work tirelessly to better themselves as learners.
In Maths, the Year 4 students have also been taking part in the mid year Essential Assessment tasks on the Chrome Books. They have applied themselves wonderfully and taken great pride in their hard work.
This week, the Year 4 students have gone head-to-head with our Year 5 students in which class can line up the best in the new quiet area.
Like the rest of the school, it has been so beautiful seeing our Middle School show so much enthusiasm towards the newest members of Sacred Heart... the chicks!!
The students were lucky enough to get up close with the chicks during the week.
On Monday, the Middle School was pleased to welcome local MP, Brad Rosswell, to our school. Brad discussed the levels of government with the children, as well as what government is in charge of what services. This was an incursion linked to our Topic unit this term under Civics and Citizenship, focusing closely on the levels of government in Australia. The children showed great enthusiasm and should be commended on their curiosity and questioning throughout the session.
Brad so beautifully summed up to the students what a leader is, he said:
"Being a leader is doing something good for someone without expecting anything in return."
The Year 3 and 4 students have been exploring positive coping strategies in RRRR. Done every Monday afternoon, the students use this as an invaluable opportunity to share their experiences of positive coping to undesired situations. The Year 3 students made a 'Rage Scale', identifying how they feel at each stage from being calm to feel 10/10 rage. They Year 4 students are working diligently towards creating a whole class 'Ready To Learn' plan.
This week, the students in Year 3 have worked to identify the different states in Australia, as well as label the capital cities of each state. They have shown much curiosity in how the government structure works within Australia. The Year 4 students have been identifying the different services provided and monitored by each level of government. It sparked wonderful discussion and it's safe to say, the future leaders of Australia will be incredible!
Talent Show
What an incredible week it's been watching the students step out of their comfort zone's and perform infront of an audience at the annual Talent Show. Well done to all the children that performed. Another big thank you to the parents for your support in getting the children prepared.
A massive shoutout to Chase. His younger cousin no longer wanted to do the talent show with her younger sister. Spontaneously and confidently, Chase stood up and said, 'I'll do it with you!' Next thing, Chase was up there singing 'Shake It Off' whilst his cousin showed off her amazing dance moves him with dance moves. Chase, we are so beyond proud of you!
