Principal's Report

A Message from Julie..

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday break, although as we hit week Seven we are preparing for the next break.

Over the holidays, we completed some exciting refurbishments to the Galleria, which has now been transformed into four distinct and purposeful learning spaces for our Year Four students. This update complements the extensive work already carried out across our other learning villages, where glass walls and doors have been installed to create flexible and visible learning environments.

These changes reflect our ongoing commitment to a pedagogy of environment—an approach that recognises the power of physical space in supporting student learning. By making strategic use of our learning environments, we aim to enhance both targeted, explicit teaching and student engagement.

This term, we are excited to have introduced our new phonics-based literacy program, Read Write Inc., in our Prep classes. This evidence-based approach supports early reading and writing skills through systematic phonics instruction.

All staff involved have undertaken extensive training, with ongoing mentoring and in-class coaching to ensure the program is implemented with consistency and effectiveness. We are already seeing increased engagement and confidence in our young learners as they begin their literacy journey.

Congratulations to our students who received the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time over the past couple of weeks. This is such a special and joyful milestone, and it was wonderful to see our students and their families come together to celebrate with the wider Christ the Light Parish community.

A heartfelt thank you to Gen Lees for her dedication and leadership in organising and guiding these beautiful Masses. Your hard work and care made this experience truly meaningful for everyone involved.

A huge congratulations and thank you to our amazing Parents and Friends Association for hosting a beautiful Mother’s Day High Tea. With over 150 mums and special guests in attendance, it was a truly memorable and heart warming event.

Your efforts in creating such a welcoming and celebratory atmosphere are deeply appreciated by our whole school community. Thank you for making this occasion so special for everyone involved!

Looking ahead, our staff will also be attending a two-day professional learning conference in the Yarra Valley, with a strong focus on wellbeing and mental health. This aligns with our belief that a thriving school community nurtures not only academic achievement but also emotional and social wellbeing.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to another successful and inspiring term ahead.

Warm regards,

Julie McDougall
