Year 1 & 2

Around our level

Literacy

Last week we all participated in the Simultaneous Storytime by reading ‘Truck Cat’. It was a story about belonging and students were then asked to think about what makes our homes special to us.

Maths

During our Numeracy lessons, we used balance scales to show whether equations were balanced or not. We made sure we put the same amount of unifix in each bucket to show the equation. For example: 8 blue unifix + 2 red unifix = 10 yellow unifix. Students have also been practising their skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s.

Reconciliation Week

Students have created a mural for Reconciliation Week in STEAM. Students shared a book, ‘Sorry Day’, and we discussed how we felt after reading the book.

We are also reading the book, ‘Wilam, A Birrarung Story’, by Auntie Joy Murphy and Andrew Kelly. This tells the story of a day in the life of the Yarra River and all the animals that live near it.
