Craft

The students have been so excited to start exploring stop motion animation in the art room!

We started by discussing the different types of animation and watched some simple animation clips and discussed them. We decided that we would focus on using plasticine to create our characters. Students were taught to make an armature using flexible aluminium wire to create the skeleton of their character. These were then wrapped in metal foil. The last layer was the plasticine, and some students even made fabric clothes for their figures.

Simple props were made to create a background scene. Students were asked to work in groups of two or three as this encouraged collaborative making and storytelling. While some students found it challenging to work in groups it proved very rewarding to be able to problem solve with their peers.

The rest of the term, from week six, students will create the animation and voice over part in STEM with Josh.

In the art room we are going back to our craft work and finishing off our knitting that we started last year. Class two are starting to knit a teddy bear and class 3/4 are learning Fair Isle knitting and creating a toy. Class 5 are creating their own knitted design, Surrealist painting and getting some art activities ready for NAIDOC in term three!

Some students comments about animation this term:

I really liked making the plasticine people. These were so much fun to make and there were so many colours to choose from. It was good to see other people's ideas and work on our own: Eve 2A

It was hard to finish on time to get all the characters made. It was fun working with my friends in a group to make the art together: Bonnie 2A

It was hard to decide on a story that my partner and I were happy with, but in the end we love our story: Roza 2A

I am so excited to film the projects we made in art with Josh in STEM. I love practising our story: Navy 2A

To support student learning, parents are invited to help in the art room. You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.
