Room 1 Years 3 -6

Hello Cowwarr friends and families,

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend! It was great to have that extra day to reset and recharge. Only three weeks until the holidays and we have so many exciting events coming up! If you haven't already heard; we have our School Disco on the 27th of June! There isn't an official dress code but if you would like to dress up in your best disco fits, go  for it!

Also, the children have another long weekend coming up as the teachers are having a Report Writing Day on the 20th of June which means it will be a Pupil Free Day!

This week in Room 1 we have really focused on priming our brains to seek out positive parts of our day. We often focus on the negatives as a coping mechanism, it's almost as if we anticipate something bad to happen so that we are prepared mentally, if it does. It is important that we make a conscious effort to be aware of all the good things happening around us.

In the morning, the students pulled out a paddle pop stick that had a behaviour they had to find in another person by the end of the day (e.g. a big smile, a joke, a compliment, using manners, checking in with someone etc.) Instantly, students were trying to do those behaviours to start our day on a positive note! I believe even as adults, we think with a 'glass half empty' mindset and this is a friendly reminder to everyone that we are just doing the best we can, and that's good enough.

Last Friday, Lianne and myself took April, Brylie, Ebby, Emma and Rhett to the Reconciliation Day Assembly in Bairnsdale. I am so proud of how these students represented the school, listening intently and showing respect for all speakers during the assembly (especially because it was very long!) Although it was slightly overwhelming to be in crowd so large, the children supported one another through it. It was fantastic to see all the displays about Gunaikurnai culture and people, it has inspired us to want to learn more and spread greater awareness in our community. The students thoroughly enjoyed the choir who sang well known songs like 'Solid Rock' but changed some of the verses to Gunaikurnai language.

Afterwards, we went to Howitt Park for lunch, and we may or may not have stopped at the Big Bear Donuts van and got donuts while we were there....

A big thank you to Lianne for organising and driving the bus! These events wouldn't be possible without your organisation behind the scenes, we appreciate it immensely!

Have a great weekend :)
