TEAM

'Together Everyone Achieves More'

What a difference a long weekend can make! The extra day of rest and recharge came at the perfect time for both staff and students. Term 2 has certainly felt like a long one, but we’re now on the home stretch with just three weeks to go before the holidays.

I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Cowwarr team for supporting my time away from school last week to attend the Statewide Principal Conference in Melbourne. It was an inspiring two days filled with insights from a range of experts both within and beyond the field of education. The sessions covered key areas such as curriculum design, leadership, improving student outcomes, and the pursuit of excellence in schools.

One key message that stood out to me was the value of adult learning. While our core focus is always on student growth and achievement, it’s essential to remember that in order to teach well, we too must continue to learn. As educators, our own knowledge, skills, and expertise directly influence the quality of education we provide.

At Cowwarr Primary School, we remain committed to building the professional capacity of our staff. High-quality teaching and learning will always be at the heart of our journey toward excellence.

Attitudes to School Survey

This week, we received the preliminary results from the recent Attitudes to School Survey completed by our students. This survey provides valuable insight into the current culture and climate of our school, giving voice to our students and helping us reflect on their experiences.

While there is still much data for staff to unpack and reflect upon, we’d like to share some of the highlights, along with a few areas for further exploration:

Positive Highlights:

  • 100% positive opinion to "I like this school"
  • 82% positive opinion to "My parent, caregiver, guardian, believes that going to school is important"
  • 82% positive opinion to "I feel proud about being a student at this school"
  • 73% positive opinion to "I want to learn new things"
  • 73% positive opinion to "My teacher expects me to do my best"
  • 73% positive opinion to "My teacher believes that I can do well"

Areas for Further Exploration and Student Reflection:

  • 55% positive opinion to "I usually pay attention in class"
  • 55% positive opinion to "Students at this school treat teachers with respect"

Over the coming weeks, we will be working closely with students to explore some of these responses more deeply. This process helps us understand their perspectives, raise questions, and create opportunities for growth and reflection.

We deeply value the opinions of everyone in our school community. In the coming months, both staff and parents/guardians will also have the chance to share their thoughts and experiences through upcoming surveys.

Semester Reports

Our teachers are currently in the midst of writing student reports, an important and busy time in the school calendar. A great deal of thought and care goes into each report, as we take pride in knowing our students both personally and academically. These reports reflect not only student progress but also the strong relationships and understanding our staff build with each child.

To support our teachers in dedicating focused time to this process, Friday 20th June will be a student free day for report writing. We appreciate your support and understanding as we work to provide meaningful and thoughtful feedback for every student.
