Red House Reward

On Thursday 4th of June, all the people who were in Red House received an award for winning the house points competition. We earn house points by showing kindness, demonstrating our school values (respect self, respect others and respect property) and doing anything that could make someone's day.

Around lunch time, one of the Red captains, Ariana, made an announcement for anyone who is in the Red House to go to the Performing Arts room to receive their prize...a Super Zooper!

Later when everyone was there, four Year 6 Red House members, Ariana, Thea, Emily and Ignatious, helped Mrs. Skoda hand out super zoopers to the kids. It was a fun and yummy moment!

SRC - Art Club

In Term 2, Week 7, the SRC hosted our first Art Club of the year! It was an extremely enjoyable time for all the people who attended. The leaders of the Art Club chose an entertaining activity and students got the chance to use watercolors to paint a sunset or mountains. We are very glad to find that people interacted with other students and found something in common to chat about. We are proud to say that lots of kids made new friends, learnt new strokes of art and hopefully learnt something new.

Reconciliation Week

Two weeks ago, Good Shepherd honored Reconciliation Week and National Sorry day with activities, an assembly and a Prayer of the Air, to remind everyone of the importance of this week.During Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day, apologise to the stolen generations. As a catholic school we take this day very seriously because we are a school that is open to everyone. So as a school, we celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. To say Sorry and respect the Stolen Generations, and acknowledge what was done in the past is important. For this special occasion, our school hosted an assembly to reflect on the past. The Year Three students were recorded saying sorry in their national languages that they speak at home. The Year Five students created their own acknowledgements.

During Wellbeing time, the Year 5s made Acknowledgements to Country, thanking the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for caring for Country and sharing it with us. We discussed the importance of respect, saying sorry for past wrongs and living in peace. The first thing we did to make our acknowledgments was forming groups of 3 or 4. We started writing it down in our books and when we were done, we typed it on a slide or wrote it on paper. We added some pictures and we will share them with the class.

Student Wellbeing in Year 5

During our Student Wellbeing lessons, we have focused on gratitude. This includes trying to find the positives in challenging situations. 5SZ students participated in a Gratitude Web activity that focused on recognising and appreciating the positive qualities of others. Standing together in a circle, students passed a rope to one another while sharing something they were grateful for about a classmate, such as their kindness, support, humour or friendship. As the rope was passed around, a web of connections formed, highlighting the many ways students contribute to our caring and supportive classroom community. If you would like to practice gratitude at home, please look at the Take it Home activity.
