Strengthening Number Sense at Home
The Department of Education and Victorian Catholic Education Authority (VCEA), have created a suite of mathematics video resources to promote consistent teaching approaches between school and home. These videos show what number sense looks like in the classroom. They also give you simple tips to help your child build number sense at home.
The first video explains what the series is about. The next four videos each focus on an important early maths skill. Your child will learn these skills in their first years of school, from Prep to Year 2.
The skills are:
- One to one correspondence
- Subitising
- Partitioning
- Teen Numbers
After each video, you will find tips you can use to practice the skills with your child at home.
You can watch the videos with closed captions (CC). Captions are available in Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Dari, Farsi, Greek and Vietnamese. The closed caption language can be adjusted in the CC/subtitles option in video settings.
