Year 4 - First Holy Communion

On Wednesday 3rd June the Year Four students gathered with their parents in the Performing Arts Building to talk about our First Eucharist. We learnt the symbols, colours and pictures that are related to our First Eucharist. We did a fun quiz about the First Eucharist and how it all began. It was very easy and fun to do. I put some quiz answers in the wrong boxes by accident ¨oops¨ . Miss Lamanna asked questions about it and we did something called partner talk. We talked about what symbols stood out to us in the First Eucharist. We had to discuss the question Miss Lamanna. Lots of people asked questions that they were wondering in their head about the First Eucharist. It got the Year 4 students ready to receive the Holy Communion not just physically but spiritually.

On Wednesday the 3rd of June, we had a First Eucharist Family Night. This night is when all the students in Year 4 who were receiving their First Eucharist came to the Performing Arts Building to talk about receiving Jesus. First, everyone had to grab a clipboard and go inside and then Miss Lamanna told everyone a bit about Communion and then she called out the questions on the clipboard and we had to pair and share with our parents about the answers. After we had finished answering the questions, Miss Lamanna called out the answers. Next we answered the next questions which were what colour best represents communion, what symbols represents communion and what image best represents this. Finally we were done. It was a very enjoyable experience!

On Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th of June many of the year 4s made their First Eucharist.

It is a time where you receive the Body and Blood of Christ through Communion.

Most of the year 4s were really nervous about it.

When I got there I saw my best friend Mehaya. She was very kind and got me a little badge with Ruby stone on it.Then we lined up at the back of the church to get ready to walk down the aisle. When the music started playing it felt really cool walking down. Then Father Andrew started talking about how important it is to receive the first Eucharist. While prayers of the faithful happened, 4 kids did the offertory, bringing the bread and wine to the altar. After they sat down, Father did the Consecration and the bells rang, then Father blessed the Body and Blood of Christ.

After that, the year 4s lined up to receive Communion. We bowed at Father Andrew, we took the body of Christ and went to pray back at our pew. Then the music started to play and everyone walked out.

After Mass, some of us had a function with our family. I had it at the Mulgrave Country Club. When all my family were there, me and my cousins had a dance party. It was so fun. Then dinner came, the kids had chicken nuggets and chips and the adults had beef cheeks. After that it was time to cut the cake but first I had to say a speech. It sounded like this, "Thank you everyone for coming to celebrate my Holy Communion with me." For dessert we also had cannolis and crostoli, so yummy!

Finally, it was time to go home and open all my presents. I was so excited, I ran down stairs to get in my pjs and back up the stairs to open everything. In the end I got some money and necklaces. It turned out to be the best day of my life, I felt like the most beautiful person in the world!!!!

On the 13th of June at 5:30 many of the year 4s received the Body of Christ for the first time.We felt nourished as God entered us in the form of the Body of Christ. Some other Year Fours had celebrated on Sunday, the 14th of June. All of the boys wore a suit and some wore a tie on their neck like a grown man.The girls wore a big white dress and some white shoes. Most of the suits were white and the pants were a dark navy blue and the shoes were a dark black color for the boys. We all wore our communion pins on our sashes which were called stoles. The stoles were white and each had our name printed on it and the date we received Communion.

When I entered the church, I lined up into my given spot holding up my hands in prayer pose. As I walked into my pew I knew that I was walking into the house of God. I said my reading in front of everyone. When it was my turn to take the Body of Christ I was excited as I knew I was receiving the body of Christ for the first time ever in my life. The people rang the bell representing how important this moment was and I will remember it forever in my heart.

After receiving the Body of Christ I returned to my pew and knelt to do my prayer to God.

I said things such as my problems, worries and sins, asking God for the answer to my problems and worries and to forgive me of my sins. After God told me the answers to my problems and worries and forgave my sins, I felt like God was in me forever and I felt like I could push through any problems.

At the end of the Mass, most of us had a special dinner and took some photos at the church. In total I think that all of us had a really good time receiving the Holy Communion.
