Resource Library News

EDUCATION WEEK IN THE LIBRARY
The College Resource Library proudly celebrated Education Week last week from the 18-22 of May, embracing this year’s theme, “Showcasing Your School.” Throughout the week, students participated in a variety of engaging and creative library activities designed to celebrate reading, creativity, and the important role the library plays within our school community. 📚✨
Students enjoyed taking part in our “Showcase your Library” Guess Who and Book In a Jar challenges, while classes also explored a special preview display of this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime text, Luna Roo. The library was proud to extend the celebration beyond the classroom, with a featured display showcased during the College Prep Information Night, welcoming future students and families to explore highlights of our library.
NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME
What a wonderful week celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime in the Library! 🦘
Throughout this week, students enjoyed special storytime sessions during their library borrowing classes, exploring this year’s featured story, Luna Roo. Across P-12, individuals also took part in a story scavenger hunt around the library during their visit, it was a great way to explore the text further.
Of course, the highlight of the week was joining schools and libraries across Australia for the live National Simultaneous Storytime event on Wednesday, which was a huge hit with our P–2 students. Students also got creative with a special craft activity, designing their very own kangaroo baller characters inspired by the story.
Our students helped make this year’s celebration such a fun, creative and memorable week in the Library! 💛💚
STUDENT NON-FICTION PROJECTS
Throughout the term, students across our Primary communities have been developing important research and information literacy skills through engaging non-fiction projects during their library lessons. Year 1/2 students explored Australian animals, creating detailed animal fact files using a range of library resources. Year 3/4 students investigated different sports and developed informative reports, building their research and note-taking skills. Meanwhile, Year 5/6 students explored the features and characteristics of non-fiction texts, analysing how information is presented through headings, diagrams, captions, glossaries, and visual elements.
Our extensive non-fiction collection has been an invaluable resource throughout these projects, supporting students as they build confidence in researching, locating, and presenting information. Library staff have greatly enjoyed supporting students on their learning journeys and look forward to these projects each year.
