S.E.L. IN THE CLASSROOMS

Did you know that all St James students participate in a one-hour Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lesson each week?

Our SEL units are carefully planned using evidence-based research. They explicitly teach important life skills such as emotional literacy, help-seeking, positive coping strategies, resilience, and stress management.

For four of these sessions a term, students take part in lessons that explore the brain, learning about its different parts, their functions, and how our brains influence our emotions, behaviour, and ability to learn. These lessons help students better understand themselves and develop practical strategies to support their wellbeing.

I encourage you to have a conversation with your child about what they know about the brain—I am sure you will be impressed by the knowledge they have gained and the insights they can share!

Please continue to reach out via email or phone should you have any questions or concerns. I am always happy to chat or meet with you to discuss anything wellbeing-related, and to work together in supporting your child’s social, emotional, and learning needs.
