Hay Fever Advice

We have started getting some warm, windy days and I am seeing more children in the Health Centre with hay fever symptoms. The children are uncomfortable with itchy eyes and / or runny noses and feeling congested. This can be disruptive for their concentration and learning time in the classroom.

It is advisable that if your child suffers from hay fever, to please get an updated hay fever management plan from your doctor or pharmacist.

We advise parents to follow the Melbourne Pollen Count app, and particularly on high pollen days, administer an antihistaminein the morning before school if that is part of your hay fever management plan.

We will not be routinely administering antihistamines at school to children who present with hay fever symptoms.

We will give wet cloths for eyes and treat symptomatically, but if your child is not coping, you will be rung and asked to collect them.
