Year 5

AHS Musical Production
Year 5 students were very lucky to attend the tech rehearsal of the Ashwood High School musical production ‘Newsies’ on Wednesday 10 September.
The show was a fantastic display of talent and dedication, and our students were thoroughly impressed by the hard work and passion of the cast and crew. It was a great chance for them to experience the magic of a live high school production.
Our students really enjoyed the musical numbers and learning about the Newsboys' Strike of 1899 in New York City. They loved the true story of the young newspaper hawkers winning the battle against powerful publishers like Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst.
We are incredibly proud of how our Year 5 students conducted themselves. They represented our school with pride, and their respectful and enthusiastic behaviour once again demonstrated our school values in a community setting.
Living Wax Museum
The Year 5’s worked hard last term on their Australian Gold Rush projects, which came to life at the Living Wax Museum on Tuesday 16 September.
The Living Wax Museum was held on Tuesday, the 16th of September and ran from 9.15am to 11.00am in the Ian Harrison Hall. It was a time for grade five students to share what they’ve been creating for the past eight weeks. In Integrated this term, we have been focusing on the Gold Rush and how their lives were back then. All Year Five students were required to create a poster on their assigned individual and to wear an appropriate costume
The trip to Sovereign Hill that took place earlier last term, influenced many Year Five students to enhance their posters and costumes. On the day of the Living Wax Museum, the hall was set up as an exhibition space with each student displaying their own posters, artifacts and themselves, dressed as famous people from the Gold Rush. It started off with parents and carers visiting everyone's exhibits and listening to their well-written speeches. Afterwards, various classes started coming in and inspecting our posters and props. After a while, the whole school had visited the Living Wax Museum. The day was fun and great success for all the Grade Five students.
