Altona North Campus News

Welcome to our latest newsletter!
Inside, you’ll find highlights of our students’ involvement across many areas of school life — from the creative use of clay within our curriculum, to achievements in sport, and the joy of instrumental music and voice through our lunchtime club program and instrumental program.
I would also like to take this opportunity to inform parents that the “Miles for Happy Smiles” Dental Program is in operation today, providing our students with valuable access to dental care and reinforcing the importance of good oral health for learning and wellbeing.
Finally, I want to begin by expressing our gratitude to the Parents and Friends group for once again running our Father’s Day stall. Their support ensures that our students have access to this special opportunity, while also raising funds that go directly back into supporting our school community.
We look forward to seeing you at Parent Teacher interviews, this Thursday.
Regards

Fathers’ Day Stall
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our Parents and Friends group for once again supporting our school community by providing students with the opportunity to access gifts for Father’s Day.
Led by Susie and Corey, this dedicated group continues to make a significant contribution to our campus. Funds raised through their efforts are reinvested directly into student needs—whether that be purchasing new books for the library, providing sporting equipment, or responding to requests from the Primary SRC.
We are truly grateful for their ongoing commitment and generosity, which helps enrich the learning and wellbeing of all our students.
Music, heart and soul
It’s been a busy and exciting term for our music students! Our bands have already begun preparing for the End of Year Concert, which will take the audience on a journey through songs from the 1930s right up to today. Students in the classroom music program are also working hard towards this performance, with many even choosing to come in at lunchtimes for extra rehearsals to polish their parts. This is in addition to the lunchtime clubs that support our students.
Our Year 8 and 9 students have also taken on a new challenge, planning their very own lunchtime concert for their peers. Each group has prepared a set of 3–4 songs, with performances from soloists and the Year 7 band. This has been a big step forward as students develop the skills to rehearse independently, build a setlist, and coordinate their own show. This will occur next week. (Weather allowing!)
Our Junior choir is just jumping for joy!
The students look forward to sharing all their talents and hard work at the End of Year Concert. More details will be shared soon!

Pinch Pot Creations
Students in Grade 3 and 4 explored using clay by hand-building their own pinch pots. They used the techniques of pinching and shaping, transforming lumps of clay into unique bowls. Each piece reflects the individuality of its maker, with creative textures, patterns, and designs that bring out the students’ imagination and developing artistic skills.
These pieces will be bisque fired in the kiln, decorated with underglaze then go through a final glaze firing. Our kiln is a great resource.

Table Tennis
Last week Ms Mallia and the Altona North Campus hosted the Hobsons Bay Secondary Division, Table Tennis competition. It was an amazing event - Congratulations to Ms Mallia and our competitors. The Year 7 girls were competitive, and our Year 8 girls were runners up.
Miles for Happy Smiles
We are pleased to welcome the Miles for Smiles Dental Bus to our campus this week. Parents who have signed the appropriate forms and given consent for their children to access the service will be taken out of class and spend the minimum amount of time in the bus, parked on school grounds.
Good dental health is closely linked to student wellbeing and learning. When students are free from dental pain and discomfort, they are better able to concentrate, participate, and thrive in their learning.
We thank the dental team for providing this valuable service to our students and families.
Reminder- Pyjama Day & R U OK? Day – Friday, 12th September
This Friday, 12th September, we’re excited to celebrate Pyjama Day! Students are invited to come dressed in their comfy PJs instead of the usual uniform. To make sure everyone stays safe and comfortable, please remember:
- Clothing should be school-appropriate (no singlets or short shorts).
- School shoes or runners must be worn for safety.
- Dress for the weather and stay comfortable.
A gold coin donation is required to participate out of uniform. All funds raised will help us purchase new soccer goals for the school.
In addition to Pyjama Day, we’ll be marking R U OK? Day with a variety of fun and meaningful activities:
- Fairy bread served at recess
- Bracelet-making at lunch
- Teacher vs. Student Volleyball Match in the afternoon
We can’t wait to see everyone join in the fun, support a worthy cause, and raise awareness about the importance of checking in with each other.
