French

Prep
This Term, our Prep students have been working hard in French, completing lots of speaking and listening activities and learning to sing along to nursery rhymes. We have recently been looking at family names, singing to the Finger Family song in French (La Famille des Doigts). They have learnt the words for daddy (papa), mummy (maman), brother (frère), sister (soeur) and baby (bébé).
Grade 1/2
This term the Grade 1/2s have compelted some amazing work about weather and clothing. We have investigated the French speaking world and inquired into the weather in the different French speaking countries. Students looked at a physical map of the world and we spoke about different climates and how we can assume different things about weather based on a county's placement and colour on the map. A dark green country near the equator is likely to have a tropical climate, but a dark green country coloser to the north and south of the planet will be more temperate. We located French speaking countries on the map and made informed assuptions about the weather there, and then thought about what items of clothing we would need to take on a holiday there. Students made up suitcases for their chosen country and we worked together to say sentences aloud, describing our suitcases. Dans ma valise, il y a .... (In my suitcase, there is...).
Grade 3/4
Students this term have been looking at different businesses and places you would find in a town, and using directional language to move around the town. They have recently completed their Common Assessment Tasks for the semester, and their work will be coming home in their black folders at the end of the year. In addition to their Common Assessment Tasks, they have completed a design project in Minecraft where they will upload a video of their avatar moving around the town, labelling the buildings in French and saying which directions they are moving in. Below are some photos of their videos so far. It has been lovely to see their hard work this term, learning words to say aloud, listen to, write and read to understand. I am very proud of how hard they have worked and the high level of French they achieved in their CATs.
Grade 5/6
Students have recently completed their Common Assessment Tasks in French for the semester, and these are all uploaded to Seesaw to share with their families at home. Students have created personal profiles in French. They have spoken about who they are, what they look like, what they like and what hobbies and interests they have. Students have put a lot of effort into the publishing of their work and using features of text types to create their profiles. Students have now begun their own French celebrity profiles which they will publish on paper to display in classrooms.
Merci beaucoup to all the students at Moriac for such a wonderful term! I hope you all enjoy the school holidays and I will see you in Term 4. Bonnes vacances tout le monde!
