Year 3/4

Literacy
Students have been exploring the structure and features of a variety of procedural texts. They have been learning about the language needed to write a procedural text and how important their choice of words can be in the outcome of the procedure.
They were required to write and follow a procedural text on ‘How to make fairy bread’ and followed a procedure to conduct a Science Experiment titled ‘Magic Milk Experiment’.
Maths
In Maths, students have been calculating the Area and Perimeter of shapes, drawing very creative pictures using the 1cm grids in their Maths books and measuring the area of objects using formal and informal units. We have started our time unit, and students have been creating and reading time, calculating elapsed time, converting AM to PM times and interpreting timetables. This week the students have had a great time consolidating all their learning of measurement and time participating in the Potato Olympics. Students have been measuring distance with potato shot put and sprinting and recording time with potato gymnastics.
Humanities
The students had an amazing experience at Sovereign Hill, stepping back in time to the 1850s. They were excited to pan for gold, with some students finding small specks of gold. They had to use their muscles to roll the heavy wooden bowling balls down a 20 metre lane. Students were intrigued watching the blacksmith at work as he melted and shaped the metal with skill and precision into a cup holder. Students were taken back to the 1850’s classroom where ‘children should be seen and not heard’. They lined up like soldiers, arms at their sides. In the old-fashioned classroom, they sat tall with their backs straight and hands folded neatly in their laps, learning about school life in the 1850’s. Their respectful behaviour throughout the day was something they can be proud of, and it was clear just how much they enjoyed every part of the excursion.
Jump Rope For Heart Day
This week, with smiles and determination, students have been practising their skipping skills during recess, lunchtimes and PE. On Thursday 11th, the whole school participated in a Jump Rope for Heart 'Jump Off', where students could demonstrate their newly learnt skipping skills and routines.
Some feedback from our students was:
'Fun because all the cool music'
'Cool because we got to see everyone's skipping tricks'
'It was interesting because everyone had different routines'
RU OK Day
On Thursday 11th September we celebrated R U OK? Day. Through a range of engaging activities focused on the qualities of being a good friend, having meaningful conversations, and truly listening to one another, students gained an understanding of what it truly means to ask someone if they are OK. From group discussions and role-playing, students explored what it means to support their peers with empathy and care. They practiced asking thoughtful questions, showing genuine interest, and being present for their friends—important steps in creating a safe and supportive school community where everyone feels heard and valued.
