Around the College

College Captains', Bishop Meeting

On Thursday, 21st August, Patch and I had the privilege of meeting with Bishop Greg and the College Captains of Doscel schools, which gave us the chance to connect through meaningful conversations about leadership, balancing school with personal life, challenges we’ve faced, and celebrating each school’s achievements. Sharing our stories created a sense of support and understanding for one another, reminding us all that we’re not alone. Patch and I enjoyed sharing our passions and hopes for the rest of the year, and felt as a group we were able to plant seeds for future years of College Captains by suggesting the schools become more interrelated through more collaborative Zoom calls to discuss leadership events and shared ambitions, as we hope to nurture this sense of belonging that the schools have created.  - Eleanor Pedlow and Patrick Wilson, College Captains.

Rotary Debating

On Monday, 1st of September, the College was represented by three students, Chelsea Delbridge, Elizabeth Dourley, and Lily Smairl, at the annual Leongatha Rotary School Debate. The students were arguing for the voting age to be reduced to 16 years against Chairo Christian College. On the night, both schools were congratulated for their arguments, presentations, and efforts, but unfortunately, the students missed out in a close result. All three students should be commended for how they spoke and represented the school.

Child Safety Week - 7th to the 13th of September

This year’s theme for Child Safety Week is: “Every Conversation Matters – Shifting Conversations to Action.” This theme encourages our community to engage in open, active conversations that support the safety and wellbeing of every young person.

R U OK? - Any Day

At Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College, we’re encouraging all staff and students to make a habit of checking in on one another. A simple conversation can make a big difference, because every conversation really does matter. Let’s continue to build a community where care, connection, and support are part of our everyday actions because life happens every day.

The college will celebrate this on Friday, 12 September.

Boss Program Launch & Bake Sale Fundraiser

This term, our Unit 2 VCE VM students are excited to begin the $20 Boss Program, a nationwide initiative that gives students $20 in start-up capital to create and run their own small businesses. Through this hands-on experience, they will learn important skills in teamwork, creativity, and entrepreneurship while giving back to the community.

To launch this journey, students are hosting their inaugural fundraising event: a Bake Sale during Parent–Teacher Interviews next week. All money raised will go directly towards a larger donation for Ronald McDonald House Charities, Clayton.

Later this year, our students will also have the privilege of visiting RMH Clayton to take part in a working bee and cook warm, home-style meals for the families currently staying there while their children receive life-saving treatment. This experience will not only allow our students to serve others but also connect with the innocence and resilience of children facing serious illness, reminding us all why community support is so vital.

In the weeks ahead, families will be asked to support the $20 Boss Program by donating used goods that can help students establish their small businesses. This Bake Sale is just the beginning—there will be more fundraising and community events throughout next term.

We encourage you to get behind our students and support this first step. Buy a treat, share in the spirit of giving, and know that together, we are making a real difference for families in need.
