Japanese Day 2025

On Friday, August 29th, our school came alive with the sights, sounds and colours of Japan as we celebrated Japanese Day 2025. The day was filled with fun, culture and creativity, giving students a wonderful opportunity to deepen their appreciation of Japanese traditions.

We were delighted to welcome two special performers: a Sanshin musician, who shared the beautiful sounds of this traditional Okinawan string instrument and a Rakugo/Kyogen performer, who entertained students with the humour and charm of Japanese storytelling and theatre.

Both also led short workshops, giving students a chance to learn more about Japanese culture and language in an engaging way.

Throughout the day, each year level participated in a hands-on Japanese art activity:

  • Prep – Japanese hand fans

  • Year 1 – Paper Kokeshi dolls

  • Year 2 – Koi fish

  • Year 3 – Gyotaku (fish printing)

  • Year 4 – Japanese Notan art

  • Year 5 – Japanese-inspired canvas designs

  • Year 6 – Carp windsocks (Koinobori)

Students put in a fantastic effort to create their artworks, which reflected the beauty and diversity of Japanese art.

Adding to the festive spirit, many students came dressed as Japanese anime characters or in the colours of the Japanese flag - red and white. It was wonderful to see the creativity and enthusiasm shine across the whole school.

A huge thank you to all the parents, teachers and staff who supported and helped make the day a success. Events like this wouldn’t be possible without your time and energy.

We look forward to celebrating our next Japanese Day in 2026!
