Around the classrooms.

Foundation/Year 1

In maths we have been learning about time. We have been ordering days of the week and connecting familiar events (eg: library, sports, school days/weekend) to days of the week.

Year 2

Maths - Measurement (length)The last few weeks we have been learning about measuring the length of objects. We have used different materials eg; unifix blocks, teddies, string and rulers, to measure objects around our classroom. We have learnt to compare the length of objects, order them shortest to longest and estimate before we measure the objects. We have had lots of fun measuring together!

Year 3/4

What a busy couple of days it has been for our fabulous grade 3/4 Students!

This week the grade 3 students began their NAPLAN testing and have been doing an awesome job. So far they have completed the writing and reading components and will complete the language of convention and Numeracy next week. The grade 4 students have been enjoying themselves as they develop their understanding and knowledge of the new Jocelyn Seamer program with Mrs Schwab.

Community Connections have started and the students are enjoying a different style   learning and connecting with our local community members through visiting the historical society, Soccer, Cooking and the community garden.

3/4EW have been extremely lucky to have been given the opportunity to attend to our school garden with the help of Jodie. During this time we have been maintaining the garden beds, removing the weeds, planting new fruit and vegetables, moving dirt and creating our own hot houses and plant labels.

A little reminder that the 3/4 students are required to bring in a reader bag to ensure readers can go home. We have also started our weekly homework and the students have adapted well to this. Keep up the great work!!

Year 5/6

LITERACY

The students in 5/6 have been looking into persuasive writing, exploring the art of convincing others to adopt their viewpoint. The recent focus in 5/6YL “Why they believe a classroom pet is a must-have”. It's been interesting to see the variety of compelling arguments they've written, all supported with strong reasoning. Both classes have delved into the structure and features that make persuasive writing so engaging, ensuring that each piece is impactful and thought-provoking.

NUMERACY

Our students have been putting in a lot of effort learning multiplication and division strategies. They're mastering algorithms and problem-solving using efficient methods.Their daily revision using the ‘Retrieval Grid” where students revise  mathematical concepts and discuss their thinking when problems solving these has been very successful for them also.

INQUIRY

Students have been introduced into the debate surrounding the Murray Darling Basin: should it be used primarily for farming or environmental purposes? They've been shown to both sides of the argument through readings and videos, gaining insight into the significance of this vital water source and the effects of human involvement. Now, they're tasked with choosing a side and creating arguments to support their position. It's been a thought-provoking and engaging topic, prompting some deep thinking among our students.
