Premier's Reading Challenge
Encouraging a love of reading
This year Northcote High 7 and 8 English classes are embracing the Premier’s Reading Challenge. This is a state-wide initiative which encourages all young teenagers to read at least 15 books by September 6 (when the competition closes). Of the 15 books, 10 need to come from the competition’s ‘challenge’ list and 5 can be ‘student choice’ books. All Year 7 and 8 students have been registered and will visit the library once a fortnight with their teacher to borrow relevant books and have some time to read them. Of course, in order to get through 15 books by September 6, students will need to be reading at home as well.
We’d love all parents and guardians to be talking to their young people about the challenge and encouraging them to set aside plenty of time for regular reading at home. Students need to keep track of the books they read and log them with their teacher. Students who complete the challenge will get a certificate from the premier, and other rewards too!
A list of ‘challenge’ list books that are available to borrow from the school library can be found on the John Cain Library website
